Title: Service Interval
Post by: Duke750 on October 23, 2008, 23:54:08
I would like to get an idea of people's opinion on whether the mid-service (ie 7,500 km) oil change is necessary for the CRDi. I have just clocked over 7,000km.

I had an oil change every 7,500km with my Elantra and we do the same with my wife's Getz.

What are the pros and cons?

Well, first of all, is your driving mainly city, or highway?

Have you looked at the colour of the engine oil? (Is it dirty black, or still a honey colour?)

Are your trips short and infrequent, or long and frequent?

I'm on the highway all the time. Shortest trip for me would be 28 km's. Normal driving for me is 110km each way, 220km per day, to and from work, on the highway.

Even at 15,000km my oil is clean and in good condition. (I still have it changed every 15,000km)

if you are driving in the city allot, or do slot of short trips, then I would strongly suggest performing the 7,500km services.

Thanks Thumper.

Most of my trips are to-from work, which is about 25km. Most of the rest are shorter.

Must admit, I haven't looked at (the colour of) my oil yet.

Duke750,

Based on what Thumper has said, and I agree with him, you should have it changed at 7 500km intervals.

I was advised by my service manager to have services every 15 000km because I do longer trips and travel on average 1000km per week.

However, with the Getz we own, the trips are shorter and the time it takes to clock up 7 500km is more than 3 months, so we have the intermediate services.

I'm booked to get my 15,000 service 2moro at the dealer. They will do it at their special price of $189 less oil supplied (I have some Castrol Edge Sport 5w-30 I got for $39.95 on special)

Interesting to see what amount they take off for oil suppled. As it takes 5.3 litres I also have a 1 ltr bottle that cost $13.95..

No Don't think so Eye..

Because we don't have CPF over here we only need to use fully Synthetic that meets B4 Spec I believe

It says on the bottle Meets SAE 5W-30,API SM/CF. ACEA A3/B3/B4 ...

They have recently reformulated this oil to make it even better (according to their advertising) since I bought my last lot a couple of months ago so it might meet that level now  :?:

OK D_D - but isn't there a thread which says that all i30's in OZ have a CPF except those with the sticker?

Had a quick look but can't find yet - will look again later.

eye30,

I think that all i30s in Oz are the same (no CPF).  Hyundai decided to put the sticker on new cars at some point in time so that everone knew the Oz i30 didn't have CPF.  I guess they got sick of the enquiries.
