New Springs

Ordered the new Eibach springs on Friday so I'll have an impatient 3 week wait now for the front pair to come from Germany, rear pair are already in Melbourne.

I was told it would be a 20 week wait for the front pair as their latest shipment has already left but was then informed for $160 they could get them in a week by air

no way was I going to pay that so they're on the slow boat for $40

Looking forward to having me little hatch low and mean

Whats the main difference between them and Australian made springs? will you get matched damping too?

The main difference/problem is there is no Australian made springs for the Euro built i30's

but at the same time I'm happy to have the Eibachs as they're are rated as the worlds best, the drop is only going to be 20mm but the comfort will be retained ( possibly improved so they tell me ) and handling improved.

No need to change the shocks/dampers as the Eibach Pro series are tuned and tested to be a direct OEM replacement for standard setups

I just fitted the Eibach Pro series springs to my 2010 i30 cw.

The rear springs took me 20 mins a side and the fronts about 40 min a side.

The problem you will have as i did is the rear camber will be excessive if it's an independent rear end.

I have fitted adjustable rear upper control arms to fix this from shark racing in korea but i don't think they are legal as they aren't ADR approved.

I was thinking of getting the original upper control arms lengthened at an engineering shop once i have had a wheel alignment done and can use the adjustable ones as templates.

The front looks about 1- 2 deg negitive camber which is what i wanted, but i have whiteline front strut camber bolts if i need more or less.

I have about a 2 finger gap up front and about 1 finger gap in the rear between guards and tyre , before i could fit my whole hand, it looks so much better.

I was surprised at the ride quality as small bumps feel the same if not smoother , so on most reasonable roads it feels as good or better than stock , you do the notice bigger bumps (harsher) which is to be expected , and less body roll.

I also have a whiteline 20mm rear sway bar i fitted.

The springs take about 1000kms to settle.

I only did this 5 days ago and haven't had a wheel alignment done yet , getting it done Friday , then i will know for sure what camber i ended up with on the front and if camber bolts are needed.

I'll report back then.

@ mrexcitement, what mm drop were your springs? they sound like the 40mm version

mine are only 20mm drop and with the independent rear on the GD euro built i30 there is enough adjustment in the camber/caster without needing adjustable arms.

With yours being a Korean built FD wagon I thought they were torsion beam rear ends

Craig, all FD's had independent rear suspension....
it was only when Hyundai bought out the GD that they swapped the rear suspension to the torsion bar setup (for those vehicles coming out of the Korean factory)...

The spring kit i purchased part no. E10-42-016-04-22

Lowering Front: 30-40 mm
Lowering Rear: 20-25 mm
Axel-Load Front: 1090.0
Axel-Load Rear: 1050.0

Unfortunately the rear has toe adjustment only and no camber adjustment , same with the front.

I will be uploading some pictures shortly.

Yeah yours is a completely different kit to mine, my kit lowers 20mm all round.

Wilkinson's Suspension Centre told me there is enough adjustment built in for my car, if in the event it did need extra then they'll rectify it.

Your looks good, looks like it could drop a bit more on the front to even out the wheel to guard space to match the rear.

You can see the extra adjustment mine has below compared to the FD

I am hoping the front will drop some more , but my mate has a ve commodore with lowered springs and his front guard gap is bigger at the front.

The last photo is of Craigb GD , mine is the FD which doesn't have rear camber adjustment.

It feels good so far but i haven't really tested it yet as i need a wheel alignment and i know the toe and camber are wrong on the rear as i did it by eye.

Just an update , i had the wheel alignment done and ended up with -1 Deg camber all round as per tyrepower recommendations after telling them what i wanted.

The result is awesome , i can't believe the difference it has made.

It is so stable now , quick changes in direction happen quicker and in a much more positive way than before.

It feels like it's on rails when cornering hard , now i really enjoy pushing it hard around corners whereas before it gave me no confidence to push (vague feeling).

As i said before comfort on good roads is the same or maybe a bit better , but you do feel the bigger bumps more.

Next on my list is to upgrade the shocks to bilsteins as the stock shocks are ok but the rebound damping is a fraction fast with the new springs , but i'll wait until the shocks are starting to go.

So i am very happy with the springs and new wheel alignment.

All done, still rides very comfortably but it stays nice an level around the corners now and no nose diving under brakes, It'll settle slightly but not much.

Wilkinson Suspensions were excellent to deal with, they dropped me of at the shops in the morning ( so I could go watch the Avengers, Ultron

) and picked me up when all done, couldn't ask for better service

They can but it would blow out your budget

If you go for it Steve just get the 20mm drop Eibach Pro Line kit ( same as mine ), if you go the next level to the 40mm drop Sport Line kit it'll be to hard
