Hi Guys

I have bought a secondhand 2014 i30 estate, and cannot find a roof rack to fit it, as it has no fixing points.  :scared:

Can anyone help?

Many thanks!

Hi houmous and  :wlcome01:

The roof fittings should be underneath the hidden sliders...

Many thanks for your reply Shambles but I cannot find any hidden flaps on the roof strips! I have done a video here, for any advice you can give.

Whats worrying me is that Halfords say they have "no options" for a roof rack for 2014 i30.  :scared: :scared:

Are there any members who have actually fitted a rack to a 2014 model?

Many thanks.

Sounds like you might need a Thule solution:

... though a lot of the fittings I've seen assume that fixing points are in place :( despite this:

Also, try asking @jonnyplantpot  if he had any success sourcing some:

Hey Shambles. Many thanks for taking the time to help me with this. Much appreciated. Will check those racks out.

Jonny has also been very helpful. For anyone else with this problem he used a Thule 1478 kit. Not a perfect fit but he carries two kayaks on it without any problems. No longer made but I found one on Ebay.

7 or 8 years ago, I had them fitted at a local specialist here.  2014 GDe tourer.
Stars aligned, and another i30 wagon pulled in at the same time to get roof racks as well.

Hi Guys

So after a stressful few weeks trying to find a roof rack that will fit to my 2014 i30 estate without fixing points (I bought it second-hand recently to carry my kayak - who ever checks a car can have a roof rack before they buy it!), I have finally sorted it, so I am posting the details for anyone who has the same problem in the future. Thanks to @Shambles  and @jonnyplantpot  for their help.

You will need:

1) A  Thule 1478  fixing kit. Plenty of second hand ones on Ebay. I managed to find a new one on Ebay.

2) A Thule 754 feet kit. These were discontinued in 2020 but there are plenty of secondhand ones on Ebay. I couldnt find a UK retailer that still had any new ones but Towing Equipment Limited in Ireland have four in stock at the time of writing.

3) A 127cm set of Thule bars. These are currently still in production and there is a range to pick from. Available from any Thule dealer or secondhand on Ebay.

Good luck!

@ houmous.  What Surferdude said.  Good to see such informative feedback for the benefit of others

(Some people post a problem, receive suggestions and just disappear.  Disrespectful!  And must be discouraging for our small band of 'technical' advisers etc).

Thanks everyone for doing the leg work on this. I've had my 2014 i30 estate for two years now and have decided to get a roof rack only to discover it doesn't have the fixed points.

Thanks to the part numbers, I was able to find the Roof Box Company in the UK has a limited stock of the 1478 fitting kits and I'll source the 754 feet from the towing equipment lads here in Dublin.

Thanks again all!! I'll keep the forum posted on stock once I find the other bits.
