The brakes work fine when the handbrake is up the issue is it wont stay up as the button does not release i think i need to somehow open up the handbrake and sort out the springs but i have no clue how any tips ?

Are you talking about the car in your signature? Handbrake in these older ones is operates by lever. Does the lever go down, but it does not release the brakes?

I think he means when the handbrake lever is pulled up to apply the handbrake, it doesn't stay in that position. The handbrake lever will have a ratchet and pawl arrangement, pressing the button releases the latch, but if there is a spring broken somewhere the latch won't work.

There seem to be plenty of handbrake lever assemblies available on eBay. It might be easier to buy one rather than try to dismantle and repair yours. I've not taken one apart so not sure what's involved.

Dont worry, i am a bloke haha and what i meant was that my handbrake which is a lever as my i30 is a 2010 model has an issue with the button mainly by which i mean when i lift up the handbrake the button does not come back out to lock the handbrake and doesnt stay up at all for now im leaving it in first gear but i want to fix the handbrake i know there is an issue with the button only as it was working fine and then got stuck in and it is impossible to bring it back out

I did not found any specific information about the lever button.
They only speak about the whole lever assembly in service manual. No specific information how the lever is assembled and how the parts work. Center console should be removed. After that you should have access to the lever assembly. Maybe you can see why the lever is not locking. I would guess there should be some sort of spring which locks the lever and pushes the button out. If the old one is totally wrecked you'll might need new lever assembly.

I haven't seen any exploded views of the handbrake lever and from on-line parts catalogues it appears to be a one piece assembly. I expect there is a ratchet and pawl arrangement, so when you pull the handbrake up the pawl is dragged over the teeth of the ratchet, with a spring to push it against the teeth. The button on the lever pushes against that spring so the pawl disengages from the ratchet so it can be lowered down. If there's no pressure on the button and the pawl won't click into the ratchet teeth then either the spring has broken, or it's become detached from an anchor point, or some debris has gotten into the mechanism to block it.
Looking at photos of the lever, it looks like the lever is formed from a steel pressing which is folded over and all the pivot points are rivetted. To take it apart would probably mean having to drill the rivets out, which then gives you the problem of how to re-assemble it without the same rivets and the tooling to press them in.
I'm not sure if you have to be able to get under the car to undo the bolts holding the handbrake to the floor, but with the amount of time you'd have to spend taking the console out, if it was me I'd just buy a 2nd hand lever, swap it over, and get the car back on the road. Then, you can take your time looking at your broken lever to see if it is repairable, and then sell it if you can be bothered to restore it to full working order.
