Looks good but it doesn't appear to be synthetic. Would it be a problem for Firty?

What's Firty got in her now and do you change 6 or 12 months?
Will check out SC for 10w 40 for my bikes.

I use the Christmas breaks to do my oil changes. I can't quite remember what's in her now except that it was at least a compliant semi-synth from Repco on special last time.

I’d be sticking to synthetic Gonz, the weight is a bit thick too...preferably a 5W to get that oil circulated around quick at startup, I know you like to perfect your economy so a 5W - 30 would be suitable

Berrima Diesel has some interesting thoughts on light weight oils and there incorrect use in diesels for our climate but he deals more with the 4WD scene.

I went through the old mans records which was 100% Dealer

5W40 Castrol Magnatec Professional ACEA B4 which is Full Syn.

Coming into Summer keep in mind 5W30 taps out at 40 degrees ambient


There's some Penrite 10W40 Vantage for $26 6l at REPCO semi syn



If you're only changing once a year, I'd go for the best fully syn. I do my cars at least twice a year more likely 3 times

Just to correct some of that information, 5W-30 is fine for 50c ambient temperatures if using full synthetic due to far superior film strength compared to semi synthetics and mineral oils.

Castrol Magnatec is absolute rubbish and not even worthy of oil for a old lawn mower tests have shown no useful properties left after 3000km's, Rockingham Hyundai were using it at one stage because of how cheap it was but after several issues have dumped it for better oil.

If I was buy oil for my own diesel it would probably be Shell Ultra 5W-40 as it's proven itself to be one of the best oils for petrol and light duty diesels, they don't do an Ultra in -30 unfortunately.

Penrite do a suitable 5W-30 which exceeds all ACEA A1/B1 (Obsolete), ACEA A3/B3 or A3/B4 specs FULL SYNTHETIC 5W-30 | Penrite Oil or Repco's Vantage listing VANTAGE FULL SYNTHETIC 5W-30 | Penrite Oil

Hi Gonz I did a search on Supercheap's website for your model and none of the oils that came up were particularly cheap in my opinion. Not sure if Repco or Autobarn have sales at the moment?

That's a great price but it didn't come up as one of the recommended oils when I put in 2008 CRDi

If it's ok then I doubt you'll do better than that in January @The Gonz

Even though they say 5.3 litres usually 5.0 is enough.

@The Gonz looks like the Shell HX8 special finished, they might still honour the sale if they've got any left and you get in early.

Yes, I noted it finished last night and tried reserving one online but it would only work via online purchase (and the shops were already closed).

No matter, I went in about an hour ago and the special was honoured - so cheap I got two for the current price of one!
