I've been trying, with little success to, find out more about my 2012 i30 1.8l petrol model.  In what other countries was this engine used?.  Here in RSA the engine also used in the Elantra sedans.

Welcome Ian :)

The 1.8ltr is also used here in Australia as well as the 1.6ltr and 2ltr.

Nothing here for the 1.8ltr, or any of them to be precise :Pout: Korean websites like Shark Racing will have a few things for the 1.8 though not a very popular engine there, as in this link you can get a turbo starter kit :link: 2011-2016 Elantra Turbo Starter Kit - Shark Racing but they don't sell the intercooler kit to go with it, most products are for the 1.6 or 2ltr.

Welcome Ian,

While we are possibly the biggest source of information about the Hyundai i30 on the internet, it can be hard to find specific info on our site due to the shear volume...

Wikipedia has a pretty good summary of engines and models...

Welcome Ian, i owned two 1.6 turbo Diesel's, and am fond of that little motor!!
But my elderly Father drives a new (2years old ) GD with 1.8 petrol auto it performs ok in the city just lacks torque, the auto trans masks the lack of torque by shifting down a gear quick & smoothly. I have not driven it in the country (open roads) it uses a lot more fuel than my diesel i30's did in the city. But the petrol very smooth runing for a 4 cyl motor, it uses cvvt so that part of tune could possibly be re programed to work in with re map of fuel & ignition to taylor performance. Other wise just improving exhast flow air intake flow could help along with changing the diff ratio to suit your driving conditions. But it all costs £ or $ . In tge end could probably look for a different car with more go. But always  fun improving what you have .good luck
