I'll be getting out for a pushy ride today
.... and being poorly for the last 4 weeks.
Nice pics.
Nice bike.
Very low seat. Are you a shorty? :undecided:
lester been a bit hot here lately & we need rain.
think last time doctor measured me was only 178cm, i can have seat a bit higher but just have it like that for rough dirt track we normally ride ( when with the group ) lester been a bit hot here lately & we need rain.

Yep, same height as me! :goodjob:
Nice pics :goodjob: looks cold at the moment :cold:
That would be great fun scooting around the bay in the hovercraft
Never been on a hovercraft before would be fun! what size & type motor do they use? & do they need some water on the surface they skim over?
well, I suppose pushy means bicycle, doesn't it? :)
Yes, I do) in a summer timewell, I suppose pushy means bicycle, doesn't it? :)
That's right, just slang. do you ride one?
with cars need controls & steering on left or right side, not so with bikes.
I'm not seeing the above links.:coolingoff: love those Paul Hogan skits

This unusual item is a bead jack, a thing I had never heard of until after I was stranded at the side of the road out in the sticks on a miserably hot day following a catastrophic tire failure, fruitlessly trying to remove the wrecked tire and replace it with a more serviceable item.
It seems that tubeless wheels are a proper pita to remove and fit tires to by reason of their design which is intended to provide an airtight seal at the bead. Accordingly the edge of the rim sits a bit higher and the tire bead locks into a groove on the inside of the rim which presents a second issue, more on this in a moment. These design elements conspire to make the removal and fitment of a tire near impossible for mere mortals - unless you have a bead jack.
This wonder of the modern age effortlessly lifts the tire over the rim and does away with the need for bad language as your tire levers launch themselves into space from under the tire while you try and defeat the principles of physics.
So having fixed the issue of easily getting the tire on the rim, there remains the second issue, the proper beading of the tire on the rim. Using a track pump, the tire needs to be inflated to above the recommended riding pressure, the tire unleashes a mighty pinging/cracking noise as the beads lock and then the tire can be deflated to a more sensible pressure. You will need the thumbs of Hercules to break the bead however.
Even though I carry a high pressure frame pump with me, its unlikely to be able to successfully bead the tires this way and this was the thing that eventually defeated me at the side of the road.
So while bulletproof tires have been installed to minimise punctures, and the bead jack acquired to prevent the time consuming wrestling of the tire onto the rim, I have no solution for the pressure required to properly seat the tire at the side of the road.
Wiser heads than mine have replaced their fancy tubeless ready carbon rims with H+SON archetypes which does away with all this faffing completely. I may eventually head down that path myself.
Since the issue just before Christmas, the cycling has slowed down a lot. But a few weeks ago on a stupidly hot day I headed for a spin in the hills with the local Audaxers. 5km in the rear tire exploded which then led to a whole bunch of drama owing to having tubeless ready wheels on the bike.
This experience led to the discover of "the bead jack". Here's what happened:QuoteThis unusual item is a bead jack, a thing I had never heard of until after I was stranded at the side of the road out in the sticks on a miserably hot day following a catastrophic tire failure, fruitlessly trying to remove the wrecked tire and replace it with a more serviceable item.

The bloody thing weighs about 60kg's so you can stop at the park and bench press it :D:lol: :goodjob:
Strange looking Woodpecker :):D
Gee you've lost some weight Misha. I went from 95 kg to 77kg when I was with Nateah's Mum! She was 19 years younger than me! :evil:Well, I have - it is 68 kg now.

An accident on the freeway and a flooded alternate route meant I had the only wheels turning on my ride to work this morning. Take that, 5000 idling cars. :happydance:That's 5000 people with a legitimate excuse to be late for work.. Plus one that didn't

Yeah I know! I was only joshing. I used to ride a pushy to work when I was in the bank. I can remember a memorable ride home one Friday night after drinks! :winker:Can't have been too many drinks if you can remember it.

i'm having breakfast as i type, will be leaving by 7.30am meeting up with a group to ride up some dirt tracks following the Clyde river in upper reach's. few big hill's to go up.
All those photos of the Mersey.Just for you i'll take a photo next time i'm over in Liverpool.
And no ferries. :crazy1: :disapp:
I've started cycling to work everyday in a bid to get fit, but people say it makes me look gay.
So, to macho up my image a little bit, I've drawn some racing stripes on my basket.
thanks for the pictures Lester , I love seeing the different area's. are you off your chippy's? have not seen any chippy stop pic's.
I have been riding twice a week, Monday & Wednesday . the Monday rides get around 37 to 40 and it's only spring. the tracks are challenging as lot of mountains & rough dirt tracks but beautiful country side. I been poking along with slow group ( smell the roses ) my old friend has been out the front of the fast group with 30 & 40 year olds he is 71. so thought about time I got back into shape and new pushy with improved damping brakes wheels and tyres. so forked out more $.

I'll take out a bank loan  :link: 2017 Specialized Turbo Levo HT 29 ? Bike Society (https://www.bikesociety.com.au/product/bikes/2017-specialized-turbo-levo-ht-29/)
They're good fun the electric bikes, a mate of mine has a US import one that more resembles a motor cross bike, weighs a ton but the 2400w motor pushes 80kph, not cheap though as they start at 8k new.
hey dazz , got it for $4,000, retail @ $6,000 but girl's at the shop would give ( I mean sell lol ) me a new 2018 model $5,000, I thought $4,000 was enough. my mate payed $5,500 for his few months back and this one higher spec model. he loves his and rides every week now.

Thanks John, I'd have to be sure I'd ride it a lot to spend that sort of money. I reckon it would nearly fit in the back of the SR with seats folded down! Wouldn't want to be taking the wheels off to do it though. Maybe next year once the finances recover from car upgrade and all my trips!
going on a 30k rough single dirt track, big hill's ride today.
also looks like I sold my old trek mountain bike, to a new member of the group, first day I mentioned to the group leader. I have a buyer. so happy as a good guy, and he had a not so good bike to ride, I payed $1,100 five year back now same model is $2,000. I put a lot of track under that bike loved every minute, the mountain bikes suit me as the country we ride in.
also the 40k ride Monday was a beauty some real rough down hill sections with just as rough up hill sections the fat rear tyre had good traction up hill good ride damping. then a 5 k tarmac run to the cafe with my good m8 on another bike like mine just Dif size wheels & tyres, he also had fitted 4 extra tooth crank Sproket so I was flat out after him we had no electric help unless speed went below 25kph we were over the help speed for the five k so good work out. bigger frank Sproket soon for me too.

Dazz, that's a bummer :disapp: I cant fit my bike in the back of the car either :Dunno: had to get a friend to bring it over from the other house.
Grab a quick release hub from the bike shop, it'll make it easier to remove if you are going to be throwing the bike in the back frequently.Dazz, that's a bummer :disapp: I cant fit my bike in the back of the car either :Dunno: had to get a friend to bring it over from the other house.
I think i'll just cart a spanner and whip the front wheel off. it's only a matter of an inch or two (the handle bars more than the wheel) But if I take the wheel off bars should fit fine.
Re bike in car,.
Are you putting in with frony wheel flat?
If so, try putting in with front wheel turned up so wheel up in air sort of.
Re bike in car,.Yep. Front wheel first and turn handlebars 90°

dazz, if you can fit a tow bar, a quick detach bike rack is a good option as no need to remove wheel & can remove rack quick to put in back of car to allow rear hatch to open. I used one with my first fd but have sold it.
Last Friday was a holiday here and I embraced Mrs G's suggestion of a bikeride. We took off about 0930 from home and rode the Federation trail as far as Williamstown Rd about 10 km from home. I then asked "Do you want to turn back now?"Picture or it didn't happen......
To which she replied "And do what, sit at home?" So I led her further east until we hit Mum's house in Fitzroy. By the time we said hello, turned back and got home, we'd dome a smidgin over 60km.
That'll learn her!
In all seriousness, a great effort from her and no soreness the next day at all. :goodjob:

$600 for a tow bar, $200+? for a rack.. Gee do you think I'm made of money! (bike only cost $158, if it cost $4000 -$5000 like yours I might have felt differently) :goodjob:
That's a damn good ride on / ride off ramp you've got there. Nice pic's :goodjob:

cores, nice bikes m8.
I love mtn bikes, got lot of good bush tracks near home.
I've always wondered about mudguards. If you are going out in the wet, you are going to get wet (I know, right) and if not, then why have a mudguard?? :umbrella:
I don't mind the wet. It's the thin streak up your back that's worth avoiding. :crazy1:

when you ride dirt tracks thats mud your talking about. we have had lot of rain in my area so nice and green now just lot of mud puddles have to watch out for. I have seen a lot of touring pushy this week passing through town or camping , loaded to the max I don't know why they carry so much on the bikes.
you ever get flats Lester?
