Good morning,

I reckon the FD is getting close to being traded in. There is a problem with the car reeking of diesel. When stationary the smell comes into the cabin and the rough starting is still there that no one could solve.

The problem is at the point where it's a health concern. The only was to drive the damm thing is with the windows shut and the cabin on re-circulation.

I wish they had just written the damm car off when it got smashed!

Does anyone know what I could be looking at? I've never had to sell a dud car and would like to fix it. If it is going to cost too much, it will have to be traded in.

Could it be an exhaust leak in the engine bay?

Any ideas?

More info.

If it's an issue after insurance repair then surely that's the path to take? Which Insurer?

Info on the original damage?

Who's been looking at i t to assess?

Raw diesel fumes or exhaust fumes?

Distance travelled?

Totally unrelated to the accident. Was happening before just getting worse now.

Not sure if it is unburnt diesel or now.

Car has travelled 160,000km now.

Had the injectors all removed and tested about 12 months ago and we're all in operating range.

I've got a new mechanic now, I might see if he can tell me any more.

Turbo is also making the siren sound and has been for 12 months. Diesel smell has been happening before the turbo siren noise. Whatever it is, it's probably what is killing the turbo.

Does seem to use more fuel either. Still gets 1000km out of tank

Engine doesn't burn any oil

Glow plugs were changed at 90000km. But didn't seem to fix the to rough starts.

It's strange the rough start is more a problem in warmer weather.

Wonder if I should get the glow plugs changed
