Had a chap called Harold come to our Garage sale today with a 2008 2.0 ltr Petrol Auto Hatch he has had since new.

They have been very happy with it but recently, every now and then they will be driving around on the highway and go to accelerate and there is some hesitation.

They have had the plugs and ignition leads replaced and it may have improved slightly, but it is still happening. Someone gave him the impression from what they have read on the net  it may be a transmission issue.

I told him about my association with the club and quizzed him about how the Transmission behaves when selecting Reverse and Drive and sounds like no delay there. I said, doesn't sound like Transmission to me. He asked if I could get some opinions from you guys for him. I have his phone number to give him feedback.

He will check out the site, but not confident posting a topic at this stage.

Sounds like the air/fuel mix problem?

Thanks for the link Joe (could very well be) I'll wait and see what else is suggested but will certainly tell Harold about that one!  :goodjob:

Did he say how many km's? Maybe it hasn't had a fuel filter for a while.

They've had it 9 years since new, but don't think they mentioned the mileage (I'm thinking 100K or slightly more)  :undecided:

Another good thought, thanks.  :goodjob:

They have generally been very happy and liked the look of my new PD. They hinted at looking at the new model for an upgrade.  :happydance:

  • the older I get, the faster I was
I had a similar problem with a Fiat Punto a long time ago.
when accelerating on an uphill the engine would stumble. on a flat all was fine.
turned out to be a worn out spark plug thread.

I think that the spark plug was not tightened enough and started to come loose.
if I remember correctly, a few days later, it popped out on my way home.
