Just curious...

While I had my arm inside the RHS trim in the boot, a squarish black panel looking like a vent with very loose rubber diaphragms as valves seemed to pop off and down into the rear bumper cavity. This appears to fit in the corner of the body below the taillight cluster.

I'm eventually going to have to refit it. It's just really hard without removing the rear bumper. How vital is its function?

I think you're looking at a air vent, the flaps get blown open when you have fresh air in and all windows closed and also usually when you shut a door with the others closed.  Flaps  are supposed to keep the critters out  and with 4wd's water out.
Might be wrong but sounds like it - saw Chall's when the rear was off at panel shop.

What were you doing in there?  I have a fair idea what you're talking about, I'm thinking along the same lines as  mick with cabin pressure equalisation.

Thanks, guys. I thought so. I popped it out while I was guiding the video cable to the taillight cluster.

Oh, Secret Squirrel stuff  Spying on the tailgaters.

So have you upgraded your headunit to something special?

Are you popping a camera in the taillight cluster ?!?

Nothing that dramatic. The video cable connects to a thin loom from the new reversing camera mounted above the registration plate. The taillight cluster is both the power source for the camera and where the video cable can connect to the loom. :victory:

Yes, on the weekend when I get more quality time with Firty. I figure that an open hole that big is bound to let in way too much of the bad stuff over time if I don't.

I'll try by just pulling it back into place blindly from the inside through the trim but if I can't get that right, I may have to remove the rear bumper.:goodjob:
