Title: 2017 i30 Wagon
Post by: tohis on October 10, 2016, 16:28:40
There are already some hints of what will the new i30 Wagon look like, although no official images yet. Again, you could fool many people by putting VW and TSI badges below the rear window...

This one is a fake, but may be fairly good estimation of what we will see later.
:link: 2017 Hyundai i30 Wagon Should Look Something Like This (http://www.carscoops.com/2016/10/2018-hyundai-i30-wagon-previewed-in-new.html)

There are also some spy shots from Korea, still inside canvas masks, but at least you can see the tail lights are pretty similar compared to the Hatch.

Thanks tohis a pleasant enough styling. I could live with that if the performance, economy and features were up to scratch (although I suspect for health reasons my next car will be taller)

Be nice if they increased the wheelbase and the roof line like they did on the FD...fat chance of that happening though.  :(

I see it's also likely to be even lower than the current model so I reckon that will count me out.
I can cope with my FD at the moment but if cars keep getting lower I think my next car will more than likely be a SUV.  :Pout:

I think I would like an extra 10cm or so of legroom in the back seat: fitting a full sized rear faceing child seat is tight, has to be in the middle if I want the drivers and passenger seat all the way back in a comfortable position. Think its exactly the same in the new as in the GD though.

We were looking at replacing our 2012 CW diesel. Bowled into the local dealer for a price to be met with...oh, we don't sell the CW version any more - no demand! Well, how about a diesel manual.......not much demand for diesels and I don't think there's a diesel manual saloon in the State.........FFS.
So we're keeping the  current model for another year. This new model looks like a Passat wagon!

They did that even when the Tourer WAS supposedly available...I'd stop off at different dealers to check out the Tourer and none of them ever had one in stock.
They'd say that they weren't very popular...Me thinks they aren't/weren't very popular because you couldn't actually get to look at one, let alone test drive one!  :fum: :head_knock:

I dunno about anyone else but there's no way I'd be buying a new vehicle without at least being able to check one out beforehand.

Yes, very frustrating and often worse in Tassie due to smaller dealers and a smaller market. Same with Hybrids and stuff. We don't carry them in stock because they aren't popular. Problem is, because the diesel wagon (for example ) is quite a bit dearer than a petrol hatch they can carry 3 hatches in the showroom for every two diesel wagons...

From indianautosblog.com:  The new generation i30 hatchback is 40 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 20 mm lower that is predecessor, and similar dimensional changes is a given for the estate version. The wheelbase should remain unchanged.

Thanks Tohis,...
I had read that, hence my comment about "fat chance of that happening" and my comment about being even lower than the current model...  :D

When I test drove the GD I had a bit of trouble getting in due to the low rake of the roofline so if it's gonna be even lower in the new model ,I reckon that will just about count me out...  :(

I was actually just saying to my partner the other day, if I was in the market for another car, I actually think I'd consider a low mileage FD CW....  :undecided:

Looks like desing before function. I'm not a big fan of those types of rear glasses in the wagon. Might look nice etc, but sometimes you are in a situation where you try to fit large object in the trunk and it would fit if the glass would not hit it. Why not continue the roof little bit longer and use fairly vertical glass in the rear. Like old volvo V70.

Had a bit of a chuckle at the 2nd picture, the look on the drivers face lol.
The sloping rear window has a lot to do with aerodynamics. Big square rear end creates drag.

Yep, aerodynamics require smooth return to laminar flow by being just as wedgy behind if not more than in front. Any aircraft wing (including @FatBoy 's) cross section is a prime example.

European Union has set strict limits of how much CO2 emissions new cars are being allowed to produce in average. This is especially hard for luxury and sports car brands because such cars typically do CO2 way over the average.

:link: Reducing CO2 emissions from passenger cars | Climate Action (http://ec.europa.eu/clima/policies/transport/vehicles/cars_en)

That is one of the main reasons why aerodynamics is very important nowadays, so the boxy 1980s styling will not come back.

I like it. The GD Tourer looks much smaller with the small window and very heavy D-pillar.

Looking forward to see the new i30 soon. Available here in DK from April...

Hatches are the big sellers but I agree the streamlining of wagons and sedans always looks better. Although we wouldn't quite call them hatches, I still recall a succession of Porsche models throughout the 80s and 90s struggling to create a nice looking bum - IMHO.

I do recall fondly driving my first car, an HQ wagon, with left leg propped up across the bench seat*, right foot on accelerator, right elbow over window sill, left hand hanging off the bottom of the wheel, Jimmy Barnes screaming out of my self-installed Brian's Auto Speed Shop Rough Country AM/FM stereo cassette deck. :D

*Traumatic slushbox, of course.

It was/ is always going to depend on the relative exchange rates when/if Hyundai has excess stock of the wagon for our market. On past experience this could very well be 12 months away. Who knows what the exchange rates will look like by then with Doggies mate (Trump) and Italy's economy teetering on the brink of collapse. That is assuming they again build the wagon exclusively in Europe.

The way the world is at the moment,  by then Pauline Hansen could be the  Prime Minister and North Korea could have nuked South Korea. Probably lucky my name isn't Nostradames..

I have a sneaky little feeling that this won't have much to do with the Trump factor.   :whistler:
It will have everything to do with the Euro zone and the forthcoming elections in France, Holland and Germany which will have an influence on the Euro (currency) and the EU as a whole.
Especially if Le Pen wins France and Wilders wins Holland.
Plus the Greek economy will play a part too on the value of the Euro.
But one thing is certain. Trump will still get the blame for it.

Compared to the PD Hatch, there's a small but important difference in the tail lights, making the whole rear more apart from VW Golf. :goodjob2: :goodjob:

Edit: Actually, from that viewing angle it's pretty similar to the GD Wagon!

Edit2: Oops, one look from the straight rear - those lights aren't much different after all. Just like in GD, you change the viewing angle a bit and it looks totally different!  :crazy2:

For me, it has an appealing look. Unfortunately, when its on the road it probably wont stand out from all the look alike makes, which will be a pity. I thought that the GD styling managed to break the mould.
