Thanks for the kind greetings everyone.
We have popped down to Lanzarote for a few days to avoid friends and family fuss. I don't enjoy birthday so called "celebrations", especially this one because suddenly car hire and travel insurance become elusive and very expensive.
We are staying at the H10 Timanfaya Palace Hotel in a Privilege suite which gives us access to a private area in the gardens, an exclusive lounge and restaurant plus a few other so-called exclusive benefits. The hotel clearly noted my date of birth when they copied my passport because I have been treated to flowers, champagne and a note under the door promising me a surprise that will be waiting for me in the restaurant tonight.
As usual, we have a hire car which is a Seat Ibiza 1.4 petrol auto. I quite like the car but the DSG gearbox has a habit of hesitating especially at starting off which causes me to press harder on the loud pedal which results in the car taking off like a scared rabbit. Libby aint best pleased when it happens. Today we drove through the volcano area where the road cuts through the 300 year old lava flow from the last major eruption. It is awesome.
We now wonder why we haven't been here before - it's wonderful.
I will post some piccies when we get back home.

All the friends and family you went there to avoid will appear.......

Oh Wow! The big "80" I was thinking it was "only" 79! :happydance:
"Just popped down to Lanzarote" as if it is just around the corner... I had to google it to discover it is in the Canary Islands... That is the only thing about living in a place like Tassie which is so isolated from other countries! :crazy1:
Sounds like you are having an awesome time!
-
Happy Birthday Alan.

So you're sure that Alan found it funny that Gonz found it funny that I posted something about a post that Alan made that I thought was funny?
Yes? :undecided:
-
No, I found it funny that you were disappointed that Alan thought that Gonz had been funny, when it was actually you that was funny and Gonz just thought it was funny. Funny how that makes it clearer.

What makes you think I was disappointed that Alan thought that Gonz had been funny when it was me who'd been funny and Gonz just thought it was funny?
I was just correcting what I thought was a funny error to make by Alan who posted the original funny comment to which I answered and Gonz found funny, but Alan thought it was Gonz who was funny when it was me who was funny and Gonz just thought I was funny?
Is that clearer?
-
No. :snigger:
-
Funny, that.

Is this what's in your mind at the moment, Gonz?
-
Funny you should ask. Is it because you don't think it's funny or you think it's not funny?
-
/me edits another classic Gonz youtube mispost
  :P
-
Why is it I see it when I post it? There's no clue whatsoever that there's anything wrong! :crazy1:
-
There is to us.
It's not there.

So what was the surprise?
They were all naked! :D
-
They'd never heard Alan's jokes before!
-
Let me clear up the confusion - I confirm that I too thought it was funny - by it - I meant Dave's comment. I also thought it funny that gonz should think it funny.
Perhaps you lot will now stop bickering.
My surprise at dinner was twofold –
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v308/AlanHo1937/i30%20Forum/Birthday%20Cake.jpg)
First to choose as a gift any wine from their wine list – I chose a full bodied 2008 Spanish Rioja Tempranillo which was 55 Euros a bottle. It was far from being the most expensive on their list but was guided by their wine waiter. It was absolutely luscious.
Second a birthday cake which we consumed about a quarter of in lieu of a dessert. Fortunately Libby had warned the staff not to do the “Happy Birthday” sing-song – I hate it.
We had a splendid evening and will be going there again tonight.
-
Wow, that's brilliant. .. I would be too tight to stay anywhere that flash, so that will never happen to me. :disappoint:
It was handy that Dave was there to take a photo...

Back in 2010 we spent time in Canada with our son and his family, timing the visit with his birthday.
We took them out to dinner and David, like Alan, hates the "Happy Birthday song thing and made us all promise not to mention it was his birthday. We didn't but at one point, he did, not noticing the waiter standing directly behind him.
Within 5 minutes a group of 5 waiters arrived at the table with a cake, candles and sang Happy Birthday, in which most of the other diners joined.
Absolutely loved it. :happydance:
-
:goodjob:
-
Yeah I got the gang of waiters and a cake when I was tret to my seventieth at a posh eating place... I felt a bit embarrassed but it was all good really... :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:

I must say Alan and in ( Australian terms ) you look as fit as a Malley bull and proper posh in your suit. I must admit since making Australia my home for the last 48 years I no longer have a suit, my wardrobe consist of pairs of shorts and short sleeved shirts, very casual. :snigger:

One of my kids is getting married in May and she asked me if I'd give her away.
I replied that I don't know about that, but I'd sell her.
Her partner, Les, said, "I guess I have to pay for her then?"
I said, "No, when I said sell her, I meant to the highest bidder, so not necessarily to you."
Anyway, I guess I'll have to hire a suit because I don't own one either.
Haven't done for years (at least not one that will fit me).
-
Perhaps we should go half,s on the cost of buying a suit and share it in case I have to go to any funerals, oh hang on what if I have to wear it to mine, nahhh forget it , not having you rip it off me on the day.
