I'm a prototyping Engineer. I make small batch plastic 'stuff' anything plastic I can probably make it for a price.

Will the availability of affordable 3D printers help or hinder your business prospects?

It's killing us to be honest designers that would come to us to spend maybe 1000 a month have now purchased there own 3d printers for maybe 10k.

The quality is terrible but sometimes they just want a model in there hands.

They are still fairly slow. The wife and I want one but still waiting for them to mature.

Depends on your idea of slow lol

I believe they take hours rather than minutes most of the time!  :undecided:

Certainly hours will be a long time before its done in minutes for best quality it builds layers of 0.1mm at a time.

There is apparently new Technology in 3d Printers that extrudes rather than layers the plastic and it ahs the potential to be much quicker,

Sorry for the  :offtopic: folks!  :-[

It has only got a little motor though, but does give plenty of torque.

Retired cop, who bought a new CDRi a week ago with part of my super payout  :)  Now doing consultancy work for some government and private clients.

Get to travel all over the countryside, so the economy of the CDRi will come in very handy!

Welcome mate, enjoy the site. There sure are a lot of new cars at Southampton Docks, zillions in fact, saw a lot of Renaults.  I was there a month or three ago,  doing a couple of cruises. :welcome:

 Probably like a lot of our partners!
Not sure what to call myself over the next year. Officially an Air Force Staff College student, there is zero formal learning to be had. My mission is to 'smile and wave', to demonstrate solidarity and comradeship to my Indonesian counterparts in an environment designed to test our sanity. 'Strategic' is very much the case because the benefits will be felt way down the track when the long-term friendships are used to avert undesirable strains in our international relations. The house, maid, car, chauffer, gardeners and guards are not really perks - rather important components to both show status and help keep sanity as compensation for when our military's finest (and somehow I slipped in) are required to give up a year to otherwise engage in futility, where other than building relationships, none of what we do here will matter.  :crazy1:
