Hi there, apologies if this is in the wrong thread!

I own a 2015 i30 Active X GD3. Or so I believe... That's what I was sold and is on my contract of sale, but upon doing research regarding CarPlay compatibility, I have become a little confused.

From reading online it seems that GD3 models are the ones with CarPlay functionality. I was super keen for this update but after asking my dealer I have been advised it is GD4 models only.
I have also since realised that the head unit on my car says GD-02.

Could someone please clarify which models actually are compatible with CarPlay (and how to identify them!)?
And help to clarify if that would mean my car is actually a GD2 or a GD3 model.

Thank you!

Welcome aharg,

I'm not familiar with exactly which model was the first with carplay although I seemed to think it may have been the GD4?

I did some research on Carsales.com and while there are quite a few GD3 Active X models for sale the GD 2 models come up as an SE only. It appears all 2015 GD3's are Model year (MY) 16

If yours has the current hexagonal grill with horizontal bars I am pretty sure it is a GD3

Somebody who owns one will hopefully be along shortly to advise further.  :goodjob:

Thanks Dazzler

Yeah mine is the current grille with horizontal lines not the curved 'smiling' grille of the earlier SE models.

So is the labelling of the head unit GD-02 not necessarily related to the model of the car itself but jst the head unit?

What dazz said.
Technically ours is : ( take a deep breath )
09/2016 GD 4 S2 Active X . The S2 was from about July 16 onwards.
The difference relates to Apple +Android  somehow ????????
Elsewhere in forum is talk of GD units being replaced for mic problem.
I'm SURE they will only have 1 type of replacement that being the latest version .
Just have to wait and see
