Many members must have an idea, what are the main faults/ breakdowns/ problems with the i30 ?

By this I don't mean, abusing the car, or such things as flat batteries which do occur from time to time.

What is your opinion on this?

unless you include having to replace all 4 tyres after 12k miles due to the rubber cracking but got a £% back under warranty.

- rear additional brake light cracks
- silver paint on the steering wheel separates from the base
- moisture accumulates in the headlights

Over 42,500 k.....Nil faults to report. Well the glove box rattle, but that's about it.

Moisture in one headlamp, yet to be replaced.
Elbow padding on the armrest could be a bit more substantial.
Passenger side front power window is noticeably slower than the rest of the windows.
Shift linkage sometimes recalcitrant when Reverse is being selected.
Screen on center stack too soft. (Scratches easily  )

No faults at 20,000km but the ride quality can be choppy on poorly maintained roads

Bout 20,000kms also.
No "faults" as such.
Just some undesirables.

EFI/Ignition system is like a switch just off idle.
And those bloody stupid mirrors.

36,000 klms
Absolutely no issues. Although if I wanted to be a stickler these were recorded.
One plastic cap over the D/S wiper pivot went missing. Replaced N/C with no argument.
Bonnet slightly out of line - so little that it was about 5,000 klms before I noticed it. Fixed.
I suspect there's a rattle/ squeak or two but I haven't noticed any.

Update - refer to a post I'm about to make as a query, probably in the electrical section, regarding the self cancelling of the turn indicators. But I doublt I'll be even bothering Hyundai with it.

- none whatsoever
Appearance:
- Steering wheel leather peeling off (steering wheel has been replaced by the dealer)
Other:
- DPF regenerating too often (Hyundai Slovenia admits that there is an error in the manual)

I guess you would have seen references to these two...

Propensity for headlight globes to blow prematurely in CRDi (due to a suspected power surge mainly at start-up)

Issues with the steering (a rattle in the rack easily fixed by the fitting of a new bush for want of a better description) and a more serious but less common failure in the electric power steering mechanism..

My main issue (after 10,000 fault free miles) is road noise and a fairly harsh ride on bumpy roads. I have 17" wheels on my 1.6 CRDi Premium. Changing the tyres to Yokohama AVS DB V550 tyres has helped - but road noise is still higher than I would like.

106,000 kms - no issues other than as reported elsewhere on the forum, being front tyre wear and more recently, a slightly down coolant level at the 105,000 km service.
My main concern is also tyre/road noise. I will be trying different tyres next time.
And also I would like decent quality carpets (some sound-proofing under them would be nice too) as the original carpet quality is crap.
Other than that, as happy as can be  The car still feels & drives like new.

Had my 2 front suspension struts renewed as they were knocking like mad when going over rough ground  and all four alloy wheels replaced under warranty due to corrosion both problems in less than 6000 miles

ok  just found this one...

1 new transmission required at 73000km
2 door rubber split and refused to be replaced under warranty as service centre has commented that its due to me rubbing as I get in and out of the car.. never happened to any of my other cars...
3 random ESP light coming on the dash... can only be fixed by turning the car off and then back on to reset it
4 blown globe over the back number plate which has been replaced at the 30000 and 60000 service and now I have a cracked cover over this light caused by the service centre but according to them was not their fault (only ever taken it to the one service centre and have never changed it myself)
5 suspension very rough that causes the ride not to be as smooth as it first was.. changed the tyres and it didn't help think I need to take it to a suspension specialist.
6 static noise coming through ipod connection via the genuine Hyundai cord ... can live with it just annoying so I turn it up louder to not hear it lol
7 water in the diesel ...not Hyundai's fault but it is their fault there is no drain bung in the fuel tank making it a very costly labour repair to take out the tank to drain.

Mel, someone else had that door rubber issue, with the same result.
I said then and I'll repeat it now for your future benefit, should it happen again.
I tend to rub against the door rubber getting in (particularly) and out. Partly due to my 6'2" height and the seat right back and down as low as it'll go. No damage to the door rubbers at all, so I suspect there was a batch of faulty rubbers.
BTW. The seating is VERY comfortable IMO.

It was Rusty Nutz and the dealer blamed his fat ass...

It's not that fat, Daz...and it's not actually my butt that caused the problem, it's more my hip....

Interesting though that there are others with the same issue. If I remember correctly, Mel's car arrived in March 2010?

Mine arrived that month too so I guess it's quite feasible that the door seals were part of a bad batch.......

yep mine is a March 2010 build Jan 2010 so perhaps it was a faulty batch..if only we can test this but i do know that the rubber is really thin compared to my other halves commodore...
i know my mate in qld had the same problem and his was fixed under warranty and he got his March 2009. I think he is scarier than I am.. (and i think his service centre is scared of him lol)

I have remembered one more if-it-can-be-called-so fault - the driver's door has to be closed with force from inside, whereas the same done from outside requires a gentle shove

Mine was ordered in January, built in February and delivered in March 2010.....

I had a good ol' whinge to 2 different dealers and sent a number of emails to Hyundai Australia.
Hyundai Australia just trotted out their wear and tear warranty clauses and weren't interested in the slightest in replacing it even as a goodwill gesture..... 

Oh, the car was less than 6 months old with low K's too......

Not a fault as such but I wish the radio unit had some flash memory so that when the battery is disconnected you didn't lose the stations and more frustratingly the bluetooth handsfree phone numbers.

If you have access to a 12v battery, you should be able to connect it in parallel with the existing battery to enable battery change over. This way 12v is maintained till reconnection is completed. As well as the radio, all other devices should be preserved. I did this in my non Hyundai vehicle to change the battery so I didn't lose the radio security code.

I guess I am just grinding my teeth putting all the details back in after Hyundai tried to fix my headlights again.

I wouldn't expect you'd need much flash memory for 40 phone numbers, and 24 preset radio stations.
