Title: Eps light
Post by: grannyb on September 21, 2017, 20:40:17
Anyone had this problem, I have a i30 diesel Hyundai automatic first registered December 2008.
Whilst driving home the steering started to feel heavy then  went altogether the eps came on showing eps off, managed to park, switched engine off, restarted and was ok. First time this has ever happened,I don't drive very often,  only just over 22000 miles on clock, just had mot, service and new tyres .Any ideas, thanks Betty

Never had the problem, Have read the odd report here. Basically the Electronic Power System failed (EPS) and explains why the steering went heavy.

Here's just 1 post

Very expensive unit, we had a recall here for 2010 models that had to be to be checked out. Can't tell you much more

Here the whole unit, bottom portion houses the motor and you can see the control unit (MOBIS label)

From Hyundai it's the whole unit, I have seen over here wreckers selling the control unit on it's own. pretty complex unit also houses an angle sensor within the column too I believe.
