Title: Best fuel economy (Diesel, Manual)
Post by: AndreaACME on November 07, 2019, 13:55:15
Hi everyone,

In my old car (Chevy Aveo 1.2 LPG) 5th @ 2000rpm (70Km/h) was the sweet spot.

I was wondering if anybody tested the i30 D (manual) for the best gear/speed (revs) point for such an engine.

Regards.

I'll answer myself.

My car's engine looks most efficient (fuel friendly) around 1250 rpm.  The obvious reply would hence be:   75Km/h in 6th gear (3.5L/100Km on level ground)

This is where the turbo can generate just enough pressure to increase efficiency but is not boosting wildly towards peak power.  This sweet spot also happens to be in the beginning of maximum torque range;  makes sense.

Sorry you didn't get any response the diesel has been a much slower seller in the PD .. Seems the 1.6 T petrol is now the engine of choice with enthusiasts. Not taking anything away from the 1.6 diesel though. I'm a big fan since having one in a series 1 2008 model.

I'm surprised the sweet spot is that low. I would have thought 1800 Rpm would have been more like it?
