Title: Front passenger door won"t open from outside
Post by: Ally Adams on December 12, 2019, 04:57:55
Hi & Merry & Safe Xmas to All,      I am a new member and new at entering an article so I hope I don"t stuff up---- I have had a dream run on my 2013 i30 diesel hatch  at 212,000 k in 6yr UNTIL this hiccup ( apart from a rat eating a hole in the windscreen washers reservoir)   To the door--I have removed the trim, and the outside door handle, Through the space that the handle was I can see a loose cable end (ball) which has become detached from the latch somehow.  Can anyone please advise me of best way of accessing the latch area etc so I can reconnect /repair the problem hopefully without pulling the window reg panel etc out unnecessarily. Due to the fine limestone dust that abounds here in Lower Eyre Peninsula my other doors are heading the same way. (These warrantee bods are not  stupid)   Appreciate any advice   Ally Adams

Curious about the cable  :undecided: they are connected to the inside handle. Suspect it goes to the lock/unlock tab.
Also, the main mech is probably broken ( free cable)
Unfortunately, you need to remove the inner metal panel. But, important to remove the door lock screws, at edge of door and one on outside.
Then remove and refit inner and outside mechanisms together.

Hi,  I suspect the cables are intact as, when I pull on the cable end with pliers ( through the gap where the removed outside handle was) the door opens OK ----it"s a puzzle

The part you pull on obviously goes into the lock mech, that notch has probably broken.

I suspect once you remove the inner door handle, you'll see the broken end of it.

All fixed now.-- thanks for the inputs from " nzenigma" and others.--  As expected the reg panel had to be removed to get to the latch but freeing the window pane required the forward of the two securing bolts to be removed completely. ( had me stumped for a while---- my bus is a 2013 model ) The latch was removed, where sure enough where on this nylon assy the cable-end holder had given way. The part damaged was small, and to quickly get a replacement doubtful. Also would likely have to buy the whole expensive nylon assy.        I jury rigged a repair by using a slice of 13mm copper tube, annhealed it and opened the hole out a little for a neat fit over the damaged cylindrical nylon portion where the cable end sits, hacksawed a notch on the copper sheath, and imprisoned the cable-end ( ball ) in it. A little filing of surrounding assy to give this now enlarged part clearance for it"s part-of-arc swing and a little glue for insurance and is good to go. Happy New Year    Ally Adams
