Post by: Sam schroepfer24 on February 27, 2020, 15:36:53
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me with trying to find the best air induction kit for the Hyundai i30 turbo gif 1.6 petrol
Thanks

Personally I'd recommend starting with a K&N panel filter and see how it goes, you can also open up the air box ports like what I've mentioned in this topic  :link: Air intake revisited (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=47067.msg445574#msg445574)

Better air flow would help a Race Chip installation :D   :link: Performance chips ? Chip tuning by RaceChip for Hyundai i30 (GD) 1.6 GDI (137KW) | RaceChip (https://www.racechip.co.uk/shop/hyundai/i30-gd-2011-to-2017/1-6-gdi-1591ccm-186hp-137kw-265nm.html)

I just installed an AEM Intake and I'm super happy with it  :link: 1.6 T-GDi - AEM Cold-Air Intake (https://www.cherry-tp.com.au/store/p29/21-817C.html)

It wasn't cheap but it makes all the right noises for me (heaps of spool and BPV sound) and has made a bit of difference to the way the car drives.

Not sure if it's the 'best' intake but it was the right fit for me as I'll be going for a full Stage 1 Tune in the next month or so. At the end of the day it all comes down to what you're after out of an intake and what you can afford to spend.

I started off with the K&N panel filter and it's definitely a better flowing filter.

Is it cold air  the filter is inside the engine bay unprotected from heat in front of the battery.

Should be pulling air from the front of vehicle for true CAI.

That was another reason I chose the AEM system. It puts the filter further down and away from the motor and sits between the front bumper and wheel liner on the passengers side and unless I decide to go off-roading through deep water the filter is still well protected.

That’s where I positioned one of the custom setups I made, I also done a side heat shield to block some of the heat from the engine though still couldn’t block heat from underneath the chassis rail.

I finally moved the intake around the front behind the grill which made a noticeable difference in the fuel economy.

I bought a Torcon kit. Then a decent pod filter.
Very happy with, sounds great, unsure if it adds much oomf though as these kinds of things rarely do in my experience.

Next project is to do some cutting on below the DRL and piping some nice fresh air up to the pod.
