Title: Hyundai ESP OFF light on, random stalls and flashing dashboard
Post by: pierre on May 30, 2020, 20:04:43
Hiiii all how we doing in lockdown?? I think ive gone :crazy2:

So the story goes like this...about 6 months ago:
I started experiencing flashing blue dashboard, it would randomly flicker.

3 months on:
ESP OFF LIGHT comes on, i could switch it back off by pressing the button but the problem still occurs

Recently - The problem now escalates to me randomly stalling (not at traffic lights YET thankfully...maybe i am just lucky?). When I stall and restart the engine it is very difficult so I leave it a few minutes. They I restart with the clutch almost raised in 2nd gear trick and it works! +Random engine revs when I've finished parking the car??

Took it to a garage today with the guy saying hes got some tool worth 5k and it can read errors, at first it came up with 4 error codes. (TBH I bought a £30 one from amazon which did not detect anything!)

We do not know what the problem was, he sugested an oil change (at the beggining when I saw him) and all that spiel but I suggested to test the battery. He tested it and said it needs replacing - he ordered a battery, it arrived and we put it in the car which seemed to resolve the error codes but he said it did not seem powerful enough, my previous one was not an original so he ordered another more powerful higher amp battery. He did some wheel steering movements with his gagdet plugged in and it seemed to work wonders! He said it would cost £80 quid all in.

I had no money so he let me drive away and get some cash. Then I noticed the ESP LIGHT AND Further engine light problem! I drove back to the garage and he said the newer powerful battery has detected a new fault which could not be read by the older less powerful battery? The code is below:

He put my old battery in and I said I needed to go home after a long 1.5 hours, he suggested changing the crankshaft sensor £60 and labour £40 which he already ordered without my permission. I  said I needed to go home but he said he car would be unsafe to drive home, I said Ill come back!

I have read the forums and a lot of people seem to be having electrical problems with hyundai which is well known...I have had this car for about 4 or 5 years now so it has not really been worth it considering hyundais reputation? I think it may be this sensor, I have looked online and they are about £10 and an easy fix, what do yall think I should do??

Any comments would be of great help kind regards

Welcome Pierre,

Can't really help with this issue, but hopefully someone can. That's a substantial first post. Giving all that info certainly helps our "expert volunteers" diagnose the issue..

As a Hyundai Fanboy Gary is understandably disappointed. Modern Hyundai's in general and i30's in particular are amongst the most reliable cars on the road. Maybe not up with Toyota or Lexus but better than many others including some so called premium brands.

Any reason why you're unwilling to help and being so negative about it??

Hi whos Gary?

Oh sorry, Nzenigma, Gary is his real name... Because I was quoting him, I thought you'd realise who I meant. (don't call him Garry, whatever you do...)  :D

So Gary I've found a similar post from someone with the same problem, with you helping him.  I've managed to fix the problem all by meself. It only cost me £10 :crazy1:

i30's have pretty good electrics. You want to try a Peugeot!

Your mechanic is of dubious quality based on your anecdotes.

No dude I fixed it myself, I bought the part for £10 not £50 they were charging.

Lol I'd steer clear of peogeot and French cars there the worst
