Gearbox
I posted this to the forum in October 2016.

"I own a 2015 i30 SR manual. The car handles well, it is quiet, it has no rattles, but it has one glaring fault which Hyundai will not acknowledge, let alone resolve.
The manual gearbox is the slowest and most ponderous that I have encountered in a lifetime of driving manual cars. The clutch must be pushed hard to the floor for each gear change. The gear stick needs to be moved to the point of engagement and then slowly eased into gear. Any attempt to do a quick change results in resistance, or a slight grating or snick of gears. The problem is most apparent under acceleration when changing from first to second. The change from first to second must be done rapidly to keep up with...

Sat Nav
Hi. I’ve just joined so this may have been answered previously

I pressed the delete history button on my Satvan in my 2008 I30 and it had an error code which read something like ‘Language not known’. There was a small x above it which would exit the error code

I pressed the radio button to clear the screen and now when I press Navigation to turn on satnav it won’t work.

Is this a technician issue to solve or something someone can help me with please

Cheers Richard

Bulbs
Hi everyone,

My 2011 i30 CW is coming up for its MOT in a few weeks. However, at some point in the past year or so, the plastic cover for one of the rear number plate (licence plate for future search purposes!) has come off, and taken the bulb off.

Does anyone happen to know a part number for this? I need to get it ordered and fitted in the next fortnight, and the local dealer quoted £150!!

Steering
Hi to all
It's look like I might have problem with steering column. 4 months ago I noticed a warring light on my dashboard it was from ESC so decided to go to garage to check what cussed it. It was steering angle sensor problem so went to Hyundai dealer to make steering angle sensor recalibration. They did it but told if that will happen again the whole steering column needs to be replaced (£1500!!!!!!). I was quite shocked cos if they could fix it for the first time why they cannot do it again. I wasn't provided with any detail about what happend exactly. I did my own research and I found that a lot people had some clunky noises comes from steering column. Problem was related to plastic rubber bushing/coupler that was wear off so simp...

Clutch
I thought as the i30 fleet out there starts to age, and we get more enquiries about low clutch pickup, or gear selection issues I've created a sticky thread.

Here's some research I've done noting these valves have no markings whatsoever but their job to to soften the clutch rengagement and protect the driveline from excessive shock.

Suspension Springs
2008 cw with 161tkm.

I hit a bigger pot hole on the street and heard some noise from the suspension. Best I could describe it, it was like a rusty hinge. The noise did not appear for a week, but now I was able to recreate it. It seems to happen when both of the front tyres drop down and suspension goes to max height, for example after a speed pump. This will not happen in normal driving. I need to drive a bit faster to create the sound. I jacked the car up and tried to check all bushings with a crowbar, but I was not able find any worn out bushings. I checked front and rear axel. I tried to wiggle all tyres when they were lifted up, but found no play in any direction. I even sprayed some siliconspray to the bushings as I thought ...

Oil
Hi all I'm in the UK and I'm just about to change the engine oil in my 2013 1.6 petrol engine i30. In my manual it says to use an ACEA A5 oil. BUT. Under the bonnet There is an official Hyundai /shell sticker that says" important use only ACEA C3 Low Ash oil". I phoned Hyundai and they initially said to me to go with what the manual says and use a shell ACEA A5 oil. I phoned a few other dealers and some didn't even know what an ACEA  grade is.  One dealer said that their bulk oil is C3 and that is what they would use. Still confused i iPhoned Hyundai back they were very helpful and went into a more technical sheet that showed a shell Helix oil e c t which is in fact a C3. If I put my registration number in the Shell oil finder an A5 oil is ...

Roof Rack
Hi there,

First post here so hi!

I had a bit of an (ahem) accident involving my bike on the roof of my 2013 i30 hatchback and a rather low entrance to a car park just recently. Big shout to the Thule roof bars that, whilst totally bent and written off, buckled and popped off the roof quite nicely considering, leaving just a couple of small cosmetic scratches in the roof and slightly bent brake levers on the bike.

Or so I thought. Turns out the front right fixing point has got bent out of shape and the threads stripped a bit as the roof bar got pulled out so it's now oval with very little thread left. Has anyone ever replaced a fixing point? Any pointers as to how to do it? I'm guessing from what I can see i...
