Hi gjgogov..

There is a Catalyst Converter and a Diesel Particulate Filter.. Not sure if you said whether you had Diesel or Petrol 1.6?  I think most cars have had a CC for a long time but obviously only Diesels have a DPF.

We still don't get them (DPF) on the i30 in Australia. I believe they have been included in the European version since around 2010.. it is hard to keep track  :undecided:

Have we got an acronym section on here somewhere?  I thought DPF stood for Deadshit Protection Function.  I was wanting the diesel just for this function...  :whistler:

The VIN number indicates that the car is a UK 2009 model (built between Aug 2008 and Aug 2009) from the Czech factory. It is therefore unlikely to have a DPF

It's not fitted on Oz models, so you'd have missed out anyhow.

I don't have one on mine, so I have to put up with them when I encounter them

The DPF is now fitted to the new i30 in Oz.  :fum:

That put me off getting the new i30 CRDi and so i got the old one (new though) without the DPF. The Hyundai forum was quoting $9000 replacement cost. This seeems too high, but they are typically over $3000 on other diesels. Its not covered by warranty and they have limited life.

Beware the DPF !!!

Edit: to be clear Hyundai call it a Catalysed Particulate Filter. Every other manufacturer calls it a Diesel Particulate Filter. Not to be confused with the Catalytic Converter which is standard on both petrol and diesels on all new vehicles.

The new GD diesel that I looked at the dealership didn't have a DPF.

I was told they did by a dealer who called Hyundai Australia about it because he had no idea what it is let alone if it had one.

The car I drove had the sticker under the bonnet saying it didn't have one.

I may have been mis-informed. Strange though, because I told the dealer that if there was a DPF it would be a deal killer. You would think he wouldn't want to get his information wrong.

Is it possible that they are in the auto but not in the manual CRDi? I know that's the case in many 4wd diesels. They can get the manual to pass emissions testing without a DPF but not the autos.

I can't answer that one as the car I drove was a manual.
Maybe someone else can comment on that.

Go to the dealer, ask to see a diesel auto and look for the sticker or the DPF itself, right up near the engine, not to be confused with the catalytic converter. Don't trust the dealer, they don't usually know much about the mechanics of the vehicle, just the visual features, that's what they're taught.

I didn't trust the dealers knowledge - he said he called Hyundai. And if he didn't actually call them he chose to bullsh1t at the cost of a sale - which doesn't make sense.

The dealer gave you a bum steer, Foggy....  :undecided:

Here's a pic I took at my recent test drive....the car was an "Active" diesel with auto....and you can see the sticker on the engine cover...

Here's a closer view.....

CRAP! Oh well I guess I was meant to have wagon in the older model. I'm still very happy though.

I can see the cw becoming even more sought after on the used car market given that there isn't one in the new model in Australia.

Yes, and had we got the new more shapely model it might have had the reverse effect

I actually think there will be a niche market for these.
Hyundai's small wagons have always sold well in Australia, even well before the i30 was released and I think they will lose sales as a result of dropping the new model from the range.
But well-cared for used examples of the FD cw will probably be snapped up by those who favour Hyundais and require a small station wagon.
