Understand this is an I30 forum but seems to be a fair amount of hyundai expertise so thought I would ask the question.

I40 premium sedan 4000Klms has loud creak in rear suspension over gutters, speed bumps etc. Also creaks when you take the groceries out of the boot or if someone exits the rear seat.

Internet research suggest locating pins used for factory assembly in the rear subframes of hyundai and kia vehicles are the culprits and need to be cut off. In fact there is a TSB relating to this in the U.S. and Canada for I45s.

Obviously a warranty issue and I will be speaking to the dealer next week but would like to have as much information as possible before then.

Definately a creaking noise, easily replicated and definately from rear suspension. Any further information would be appreciated.

Sorry Mike, this would push us way off topic and set a precedent.

I'll move it to our General Discussion section where it should be "safe" ;)

I can't offer any assistance but will be interested to hear what the dealership has to say.

Welcome Mike ..

That is an unusual one. I have driven an i40 Premium* as it was on my short list for a new car (love the styling and all the bells and whistles)

I doubt anyone will be able to give you more info than you already have though  :undecided:

*Didn't notice a noise but only had it for maybe 20 minutes or 30 minutes

I have creaking on both front and rear suspensions since new (only done 6,000km now).

Took it to the dealer who cannot hear anything.

I do not have time to deal with it  and it is not very loud - even though is getting constantly worse,

I will be taking it to a suspension specialist (Pedders) for a 2nd opinion, and if they find something wrong

.....God help the Hyundai Dealer!

My i30 rear suspension creaks.  It has 8-9000kms on it.  The front also creaks slightly when I drive into my driveway (odd camber change, I'm on a hill)

Not fussed.  FWIW My dad's lexus which cost more than three times as much as my car new, also creaks in the back.  Plenty of other cars I have driven creak also

maybe take it to pedders, they probably will find the source of the noise if it's something else much faster than the dealer

My i40 Tourer has no noise from the suspension (or anywhere else for that matter!), so can't help but let us know what the dealer says.

Just returned from the dealer.

Loose right rear camber adjuster bolt.

Tightened bolt, four wheel alignment car is now silent.

Cheers
