My car is about to hit 11,000km, and ever since 10,000km there's been a noise+vibration feeling through the clutch pedal that lasts for only a quick moment when moving from standstill in 1st or 2nd gear.

It happens between 1300rpm-1600rpm and has become a lot more frequent this week.

Yesterday It even happened on downshifting to 2nd or 3rd as the Revs passed  1300rpm-1600rpm.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

Also my fuel economy has gotten a lot worse since about 10,000km but i don't think the 2 problems would be related

I'm thinking you need to put some diesel injector cleaner through (like this)

http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Fuel_Treatments/Diesel_Injector_Cleaner/#.URVpQKU4sbQ

or run a couple of tanks of Premium Diesel

I suspect the engine is running a bit rough due to poor fuel or dirty injectors

I had the 15000km service and they couldn't hear it (Even though it happens on every drive). So I took the mechanic for a drive and he heard it and said it's definitely a bearing. They said it'll take 2 days to fix as they need to take out the gearbox. It will be covered under warranty.

Hopefully this fixes it!

They took the car for 2 days and replaced the part.
But the noise is still there!
Now they say I need to take the mechanic for a drive between 8:30am-4pm (which is impossible for me because of work) to show him the noise again.

Great

I took the mechanic for a drive again and now they need the car for 1 day just to figure out what's wrong with it.

Since it's a warranty thing do you think I have grounds for asking for a replacement car for the day?
They already took the car for 2 days to fix this problem and it wasn't fixed.

No harm in asking but I don't think they're under any legal obligation to provide one.
Nothing lost by asking the question of them though.

Did you get to the bottom of the noise problem?

My 2011 has started making a very short squeal/grate/vibration on starting from standstill.  It did it very occasionally over the last few months but it is now more frequent .

I would take notice of what "Dazzler" suggested and try some injector cleaner. It will not cost a fortune and worth a try.

Haven't got to the bottom of it yet.

It's booked in for next Thursday for them to spend a day figuring it out.

What has injector cleaner got to do with a noise on clutch take up?

Have a look at some of the posts relating to gear box problems shudders and noises. May not fix your problem but it is worth a try. It worked for me.

Thanks guys for your help.

I dropped the car at Tynans Hyudai last Wednesday. About midday they called and said they need the car until Friday because they need to take the gearbox out.

Then at 12:10pm Friday they call and say the car isn't ready for the weekend and they will probably need it most of next week. They said they took photos and sent to hyundai to ask what to do next.
He said they could organise a hire car for the weekend but I'd have to pay.
I told him I need a car as its my only car, and Friday was day 5 (total) without my car and he called hours before picking up my car to say he wants it up to 1 more week.
I said its a warranty issue and I shouldn't be out if pocket for a car. He said he would try to juggle the cars around.
So they gave me a brand new i30 hatch until my car is ready!

Bad customer service but the new i30 is quite good.

Our service dept doesn't offer loan cars, but if you say you need a car or they aren't getting the work, they seem to find something available. Needs to be arranged before the job is commenced though.

I called today to see what's happening.
They haven't done anything. They are waiting for hyundai to tell them whether or not its a warranty issue... But they already took it for 2 days and "fixed it" under warranty... Only problem is they never fixed it and it only got worse since then.

So it's already established that it's a warranty issue right?

I would see it that way. If they performed any repair work, then that work is warranted, so even if repair 1 was rejected, repair 2 is now a warranty job IMO.

I complained via Hyundai's customer care line and facebook page last night.

Today Tynans called to say Hyundai will cover it all and this is a known problem. They are replacing the same part as before but it's a revised part due to the known problem.

This is great HOWEVER they saw while the gearbox is out that the clutch plate needs replacing in the next few months so instead of paying 8 hours labour + part later that they will cover the labour to do it now if I pay $220 for the part.
My car is on 24000km and he said the clutch plate wears out between 20,000-40,000km usually depending on driving style.

I think it's way too soon for it to wear out.

Does anybody know more about this?

That is ridiculous! Many long term members have done close to or more than 160,000 kms in i30s up to 5 years old without needing a new clutch.. The clutch is not usually covered under warranty but should be with that age and mileage.. Now where is that facebook page  :whistler:

Is the clutch plate the same as the clutch?

The clutch is a group of components of which , the clutch plate is a hard working component.

Here's a demo of a clutch.

That's garbage! There is no way a clutch should need replacing after so few K's.  :fum:

My old Holden Barina had 420,000k on the clock when I sold it and it was still on the original clutch.

Called hyundai customer care and spoke to Andrea. (They twice said they would call me but never did)

She tried to tell me that clutches are not covered under warranty but I persisted. She spoke to her boss who agreed its very soon for it to wear out so as a goodwill gesture they will pay for it.

Now all I need is for the original issue to be fixed when I pick up the car.

At least you've had one win!  :goodjob:

It really shits me the way Hyundai tries to shirk their responsibilities... :fum:
When I bought my i30 I had a door seal fail after 6 months and they pulled the ol' wear and tear excuse as to it not being covered by warranty.

THE SAGA CONTINUES!
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I had a Hyundai i30...

It's been 3 weeks without my car.

Since my last update they mucked me around some more, gave me more wrong info and didn't get back to me when they said they would.

However today my car was fixed and ready for me to pick up!

I arrived and found some goo on the rear bumper and had them get it off (it seemed like glue).
Then I noticed my front left quarter panel had a scratch + dent on it. And the top of the rear bumper had a few extra scratches.

They will get a panel beater to fix my car this week so I'm still in the loan car and still without my car.

PS if you haven't followed the link to my facebook post, plenty of people are commenting on it who have all had similar crap experiences with Tynans!
