11.4.14 UK national recall for replacement of brake light switch as there can be a build up of carbon/dirt on the contacts. This can affect systems such as ABS, ESC, TCM and Cruise Control while the brake lights continue to work.

Mine was fixed foc by local dealer at same time as the flickering Instrument Dash Panel LCD Screen Illumination problem.

What a blessing to have a 5 year warranty.

Hmm... safety recalls are actually unaffected by warranty in the UK ;)

Interesting that there are no recalls on DVSA/VOSA

Yes, received my brake switch recall notice today, in an envelope on which the bottom left showed VOSA insignia etc & bottom left Hyundai insignia.
No mention of VOSA on the letter, but the first switch was replaced a few years ago :)

So is this a new recall, or a recall of the old brake switch recall.

Had my brake switch replaced FOC last December when the car was 6 years old. Note, that my car only had 3 years of warranty.

Wonder if I need it replaced again now..

It's very confusing & thus ridiculous.
I've had 3 already replaced - now another ?

The wording above would suggest it's a recall of the replacement switch as the original problem stopped or delayed the brake lights from working.
Be interesting to see how it pans out.

It would appear to be a EU recall at present, I wonder if S Korean built vehicles are involved

I have received the recall letter today. It was changed under warranty last year so I'm undecided whether to get it done again or not.

Book it in and see if they come back to you to say it has already been done.

Then again they might just put your old one back in

If you have received a recall letter the switch must be replaced.. The new switches have been modified/improved over the old ones. This includes the addition of an extension ground cable that must be fitted on some models.

This recall affects lots of hyundai models. i30 (FD & FDE), iX35 (EL), Coupe (GK), Tucson (JM), Santa Fe (CM), Verracruz/iX55 (EN), Grandeur/Azerra (TG), Accent (MC)

I have not received a letter, but had the switch replaced for free when I took car in to garage for a free brake check last week. The results of the break check were another story, funnily enough all discs and pads need replacing at nearly £600.

Presume out of the warranty period for pads and discs as 2009 year.

What is the mileage?

ps Welcome

35K, rear discs pitted and delaminating so knew they needed replacing, front discs were reported as being lipped so unsafe, but had new tyres fitted a month ago on front and mechanic in private garage said front brakes were fine. Going to take tyres off and have a look myself.

So not done yet.

Did the Hy garage suggest to you or did they offer to refer to HQ for examination?

Ok probably get response as out of warranty but you never know if this is a common fault due to faulty parts, pads/discs, may be they may look at part payment.

Picked up rear discs and pads from private parts company for £80 so doing them myself as i have done many other times on previous cars i have owned. Going to inspect front discs and see if I an clean them up or have them skimmed instead of replacing them.

Just had phone call from my son to say he has received a letter re this recall.

He has my old i30, 57 plate, and I'm sure I asked about this some 3 years ago when it was first mentioned.

Told then that my cars VIN wasn't on the list but now they seem to want to do it!!!!!

Anyway phoned dealer and booked in for mid May, earliest appointment.......

Give to dealer or leave letter in the service book.

Did you sort out reg number?

Any combinations which spell a meaningful word or any relating to this site?

I'll hand over the letter as part of the transfer. Dunno whether they'll implement the fix before resale. Not my concern :D

As for the other stuff, the choice wasn't great (24 plates) so I chose one that reminded me of slime  You'll see when the pics get galleried next week :D

Hyundai Israel issued a recall notice to all 2010 owners.
Apparently there is some problem with the brake light socket which influences other (safety) parameters in the car's computer, causing them to malfunction. Replacing the sockets fixes this issue.
