Well I was wanting to have the genuine fog light drl's and the eyeline drl's if legal... But since its not I'll settle with just the eyelines.

Edit: Are the eyelines "technically" lamps? All they are is a strip of LEDs in a white tube to disperse the light into one continuous line. Its not like they throw any light forward like  most DRLs.

I would think "technically" that they would be classed as DRL's

BUT.... I highly doubt that any roadside officer would know/care if you had them as well the DRL fog lights. If anything you are making your care safer

Just so we're on the same page, we are talking about these, I take it?  :undecided:

The thread title "would this be legal in Australia" is me asking if its legal to pretty much replicate this picture on my i30, so pretty much what I'm asking is:

- Are the eyelines legal? So far we all agree that they are.
- Is it legal to have the eyelines AND the fog light DRLs on the same car at once? This is what we're stuck on, since the guidelines says "no more then two" which would be the fog light DRLs so adding the eyelines would equal four would it not?

I don't believe we've established that the eyelines are legal at all....  :undecided:

We would need to know how bright they are for a start....
Going by the pic, they don't look particularly bright so in no way could you call them daytime running lights...  :undecided:
They would be more than likely be classed as position or parking lights, I would think.

You make a good point,

OK let's look at it another way... What's the chance a cop is gonna take a double look?  :whistler: what would once receive if a cop picked this up? A fine? Or just a warning to remove them.

If the amount of vehicles getting around at night with headlights and aftermarket daytime running lights blazing is any indication, I suspect you'd have little to worry about....  :whistler:

Btw, found this, it may help you see things clearer. :D
It's for Western Australia but would most likely still be relevant...

Instead of making another thread about pretty much the same thing, would this mod be legal also?

Yep, it's just like a tail light. I think you only need to worring about mods when they aren't improving safety...

In some countries, that position is not a reflector, but rather a rear fog light. It could be interpreted as such in Oz and would be illegal to use, unless foggy. Whether a policeman would prosecute on such a matter, who knows. :Dunno:

The correct place to determine legality is with you local transport authorities. We can only give opinions, here.

The amount of people I see driving around with the fog lights on drives me crazy (not during fog weather obviously) I once saw a police car with them on!!!

We don't get a lot of fog at all in the land of milk and honey, so we use them as DRLs instead. :victory:

I'm with you Jesse.
It's especially bad in Qld because we were the last state to intoduce the law which prohibits their use except in fog.
And it's really bad on 4WDs because the whole light array is higher off the ground.
They are supposed to be of limited wattage (apparently) but the majority of those I see are at least as bright as the headlights and hence, play havoc with oncoming drivers' night vision.
Gonz and Vaero, please desist.

I never use the fogs except when they are intended. Using them all the time usually labels you as a tosspot
