Change the gear knob of i30 2012 manual 6spd

How do i change the gear knob ? i have a hyundai i30 1.4 crdi 2012.i want to know how to put off the old one and replace it with a new one.sorry for my terrible english

First of all what model is your I30 FD or GD? 2012 was the crossover year.
Your English is not too bad.

Hi Mike and welcome

You need to first release the gearstick boot surround, if you feel under the top/front edge of the surround through the vinyl you'll feel two small press clips - one left and one right, place your finger beneath each clip and pull up/back towards the roof and they should release easily enough.

Once the boot is unclipped from the base then turn the gearknob anti clock wise and unwind - it'll be very tight at first but just needs that first crack of the loc tight and it'll unwind easy.

Reverse the procedure to put the new one on and you're done

make sure not to loose the spring for the reverse button when unwinding the gear knob.

I cant speak for mike81 but I changed mine because the plain black gear knob is rather ugly and doesn't match the nice silver and stainless/chrome accents on the rest of the interior, the SR gear knob was much preferred for me
