Hello,
Today I've replaced (with the help of a friend) the filter of the fuel pump. Although the service schedule here in Israel doesn't say that it needs to be replaced at all, I've decided to replace it as a "preventative" step.The car was purchased in october 2015, with 82K Km on the clock. Now it's on 86K Km.

PS: The model of the car is sold in Israel as Hyundai I30CW, and it's service schedules might be different from where you live.
Use this guide at your own risk, I can't be held responsible for any damage done, and it's brought here for information purposes only.


PS2: All this procedure MUST be done in proper ventilated area, fuel fumes are very dangerous and highly flammable!

Let's begin:
1. Go to the baggage compartment and slightly move the back seat forward, So the screws that hold the bottom section of the rear passenger seat will be exposed.
Screw the bolts that hold the bottom seat cushion and remove the lower part of the back seat.
2. You'll see a black cover. That's the cover of the gas tank with the fuel pump screwed to it.
3. Unscrew the bolts of the black cover. The fuel pump assembly will be exposed. Unscrew the bolts from the pump asselmbly and CAREFULLY remove the pump assembly, including the floating bar which shows  the amount of gas in the tank to the fuel system.
Be careful not to drop the pump halfway through.
4. Remove the electrical connectors of the fuel pump.
5. After the fuel pump is fully disconnected from any hoses or electricity, start the engine for several seconds. This is done in order to release any excess of fuel fumes or fuel pressure from the fuel hoses and the fuel system. Don't be afraid that the engine will turn off or the car stutters-it's ok. Mine had stuttered for about 30 seconds until i turned it off, looks like the fuel line was perfect and held quite a bit of fuel.
6. remove the pump, and place a large cloth over the gas tank in order no to let any fuel fumes or fuel out of the tank.
7. The fuel filter in the pump can be exposed VERY gently by meddling with small screwdrivers (or screwdrivers similar to a dentists tools with small sharp edges). There are several plastic clips that hold the pump assembly in the filter housing. carefully meddle with those, because if one of these break, you are in deep trouble.
8. After the filter housing is seperated from the main pump asslembly, repeat the process with the plastic clips in the pump which hold the filter in place.
9. Remove the old filter, replace the new one.
10. Tightly press on the new filter (you'll hear a "click" sound) and make sure that none of the plastic clips is broken and everything is locked in tight.
11. Install the pump assembly into place, reversing the instruction order. and making sure all the electrical cords and bolts are properly tightened.
12. After the pump is at the fuel tank, turn the ignition key 1/4 way through, just to let the pump gain the proper pressure in the fuel system. repeat this 3-4 times. Make sure that when you place an ear next to the pump, you'll here it buzzing lightly (making sure it's working).
13. Start the car, make sure the fuel gauge is slowly going to the previous amount of fuel (1 liter more or less) than what was already in the tank, and go for a test drive.
14. Make sure there are no fuel leaks or fuel smell during ordinary driving.

Price of parts: Original Hyundai fuel filter, 131 NIS (approx 33$).

After all the job was done, that car started a little faster, and I felt a slight improvement in acceleration and gas pedal response.

I'll be doing this procedure this upcoming weekend. My filter was replaced about 70'000km ago, but lately I have found the i30 to have occasional hard starting and a fuel filter is only ~AUD50 here, so worth the money spent to make sure it's in proper shape :goodjob:

Filter job done and dusted.

One of the bolts that held the securing ring on was stripped (probably damaged when the filter was replaced by the dealers prior) but I installed a new one. The fuel pump is noticeably quieter when priming and seems to start easier, and I'll test to see if the performance has improved if at all
