Just back from a month away. The car stated fine and I went to turn on the radio. It had reset itself and was asking for a Security code.

So fixed that problem but I recall from my previous Toyota that the radio reset is an early symptom of the battery being on the way out.

Given I don't want to wait until it fails totally, looking for advice as to what battery to buy. Both in terms of type of battery and the spec needed. As indicated in the title,  it's a 2011 cw diesel. The battery has lasted exactly 5 years and would like to get a durable replacement.

Thanks in advance. Simon

I went the next size up in cold cranking amps (CCA).  From memory I think the original was 750 and I went to 870.  Same size physically, no problem there.  Stayed with standard lead acid type.

Thanks. Any thoughts on the AGM  type batteries?  If so what size to get?

I think type of battery depends on whether the car have ISG or not. I believe you can find the info in your owners manual.

My car turns 9 y/o in December, still on the original battery...  :D

I so wish that for Firty. However, 14 months in storage could be a killer. :sweating:

I'm waiting with baited breath for when she's re-awoken.  :sweating:

AGM Batteries are fussy about the way they are charged. I can't see why a non ISG car would benefit from one.

It's a Super Charge model NF66H, 750 CCA, maintenance free lead acid.  Price I think was $225 from a place in Devonport called Norco Batteries.  They deal only in batteries, used to actually manufacture their own brand on site up till about 20 years ago.  Now they just sell batteries imported from Asia.  As for the Supercharge brand quality, well,............ I had one in my Skyline for 12 years.  Only thing I made sure of was to only ever top it up with de-ionised water from our laboratory at work.  This new one in the i30 is the maintenance free type, can't add water.
As for the AGM types, they are excellent as deep cycle batteries and my BMW bike runs one, but I'm not  sure of the benefits vs the cost for use as a starting battery.  I'm told lead crystal is the latest development as they will not sulphate if flattened.
