Hi,

ive recently purchased a Hyundai i30 1.6 Comfort Diesel but having a small problem with connecting my phone.

The car doesn't have the Bluetooth feature so im trying to connect to the car via the USB port but all im getting is 'reading usb' on the radio display and my phone vibrates madly like its trying to connect but no charge nothing. Am i missing something simple here?

What year/model is your diesel (sounds like a series 1 - FD model) 2007 - early 2012 ?

What type of phone have you got?

There was a Hyundai phone cable available for that earlier model which made a difference in some circumstances.

No, you don't have to have an iphone to connect. Obviously you won't get hands free calling though whatever you do.

I assume it's mainly to play music? What most do with that model with regards to music is just plug in a thumb drive/memory stick full of music.  You can get quite large Nano usb drives cheap now that are barely visible form outside the car. You can load them with thousands of songs and don't have to worry about plugging/unplugging your phone all the time.

If you want to make bluetooth calls some of these things work well.

Pretty much for music but also a easier way to charge my phone instead of using a adapter plugged into the cigarette lighter or other power port just incase i need to use my phone satnav

That bluetooth adapter is pretty good also so may inveat in one of them!

My 1.6 I purchased the other day does the same thing, tried using an iphone cord with an iphone 6s

I had a 2007 crdi and i was able to connect my phone via bluetooth.

Check out as i wouldn't of thought it would be removed as handsfree.

Are you sure Lester? We didn't get bluetooth in the FD (in Oz) until MY11 model I think.

I wouldn't use the radio usb for charging, it has a very low amps. About  0.47 amps from memory.

Yes as i had my phone connected as hands free but will confirm when i next see my son who now has the car

For music, I have a range of USBs I plug into the socket inside the armrest.
For hands-free, my Navman GPS unit sitting in the top pocket flap does that for me by automatically pairing via bluetooth.
