Hi,
I just purchased a used i30 1.6 CRDi Automatic (2013)!
Today it's the first day of use and I reset the MPG (UK) from dashboard (was showing 35MPG).
So I drove it for about an hour today (very calmy) and I was seeing a consumption around 38MPG. Now 38 MPG UK converts to 7.43l/100km which is terrible consumption. PS the car has 17" wheels
Any ideas?

My auto Tourer would get ~8.5l/100 in city driving with a mix of shopping trolley duty (1-2 kms with a cold engine) and a couple of weekly, longer, drives

On the open road low 5s were achievable if not exceeding 110kph (motorway speed limit in Oz).

I have the same model (2014) and the best I have had is 43.5 mpg. This was on a 25 miles motorway drive for approx 25mls at a steady 60mph on auto cruise. I think that many car manufactures are guilty of gross exaggeration in their claims of potential mpg. The car has only 18000mls on the clock. There is no way they can put this down to driver technique. Hyundai are not alone. They all do it nowadays. My last car was a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 petrol. They claimed a potential 67 mpg and the best I got was 52mpg. Its all just hype. Consumer groups should be getting a grip on the subject.

It doesnt make sense. I mean it's too much for a tiny car. My father's Mercedes E220 CDI 2007 makes 7.5 in city and it's almost 2 tones car.
I noticed that there 2 kinds of MPG. The UK and the US. Do we know which one is used by Hyundai?

I don't know what Hyundai use as default measure but mine is recorded as MPG in the UK. There is a general opinion on other posts I've read that it is more to do with an inaccurate computer system than the cars themselves. Some have said that filling the car up to the brim then doing a long journey before filling up again has produced wildly different results than recorded on the computer. For the better I should add. I sure hopes so.

Been mentioned many times that the readout is not accurate.

Best way to check is to use actual useage of fuel to miles covered.

But to do accurately is to brim the tank, use, then brim again.

You don't need to use all just a fair amount of fuel and a fair miles.

However, depending on type to driving, urban, rural etc will have outcome on mpg.

But need a few fill ups to get best average mpg results.

Also, the car has to "learn" your driving style.
It gather info as you drive but to quicken this up you may wish to clear the ecu.
You will find post on here about  clearing the ecu by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes.

 unless usa import then would expect uk mpg
