Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has the genuine i30 PD dash mat? I am wondering if there are cutouts for the 2 tweeters on the dash or are they covered by the dash mat? Not too keen on it if it covers the tweeters.

No cutouts for the tweeters. I got it with my deal but don't particularly like the way they have a cutout on the passenger side for the airbag. Looks naff, I prefer a flap. I did do a comparison of the stereo with and without the mat and couldn't tell much if any difference in the sound. If I had, I was going to do the cutouts myself then glue some fine grey felt under the holes.

It shouldn't be long before some aftermarket dash mats start to become available for the PD's, they'll pop up on ebay soon hopefully.

Thanks Craig, @jeffers1984  Those cutouts are for the vents, not the tweeters though. At least they don't have the cutout for the airbag. Like I said you can quite easily make your own cutouts if you think the mat is muffling the tweeters. I have poor hearing so my processing of high frequency sounds is pretty poor. In other words, probably not the best one to test something like this...  :snigger:

Leather dash mat from Shark Racing. They cater for both left and right hand drive models.

Thanks. Be interesting to see a complete picture because I'm not keen on the colour and the fit looks a bit "random" !

I went to their site and found this link. I don't think I would like that look!

That’s why I never mentioned the shark racing dashmat links previously as they were very ugly with quite a poor fit, they also have the same type material for door trims and cup holders/storage compartments.

I received my dash mat from Fitmycar as per the the item listed by CraigB in a couple of posts above and, yes, it does have the cutouts for the tweeter speakers.
It's a really good fit as well, I'll give it a couple of days to settle, but I doubt I'll even need to put any Velcro tape under it to hold it in place.
Only point I notice is that is doesn't cover the rear of the LCD panel, but I doubt the OEM one does either.

AND it doesn't have that fugly gap for the passenger airbag :goodjob2:

Cheers, I don't listen to music in the car much but I might cut out the mat above the tweeters.

Any chance of uploading a photo to see how it looks at some stage please?

If you do modify the mat note that the cutouts are not a big hole, rather they are a series of small holes in concentric rings.
Yes, I can upload up a pic when I finally master the uploading process on this site, the 50kb attachment limit on the posting page seems a bit limting.  :faint:

OK, let's see if this pic upload lark works, apologies if they are a bit big.
The mat is not yet secured by tape and could probably be held a bit flatter, but I'll leave it in the sun a few days then iron it out a bit.
After having been in the wife's Tucson today I have to say that the genuine Hyundai mat is more reflective than this one.

Thanks wooly. Looks good. Lighter shade than the genuine by the look of it. Yes, some of the genuine ones have a sheen to them which makes them a bit reflective.  :crazy1: Although less so than a bare dash.

It's actually not as light as it appears, it's quite black in fact, must be the morning light.
What I do like is the lack of of a huge bite out of the left side

Jeepers! I hadn't thought of that! If I turf my spare wheel and my dash and boot mats + empty my glovebox and centre console I can probably bring my favourite time of the week ( my massage) forward by half a second!  :happydance: :goodjob2: :goodjob:

I nearly get one for my car as well, yet on second thought - it would increase the dust retention on the mat so close to the window.  Thought it might be easier to wipe down the dash with a wet cloth compare to vacuum the mat.

What are the benefits of the dash mat ppl?  Thoughts?

They are a good thing in mine and many other Aussies opinion. Not as popular in say the UK where it is not as hot/sunny.

The main benefit is reduced reflection from the dash. I honestly think they slightly reduce the interior temp of the car (as well) as plastic dashboards get very hot, but the mats don't seem to (as much). Obviously they also protect the top of the dashboard although cracking is less of an issue these days. I tried to find a thread where the benefits were discussed in detail, but it must have been a while back.

In hindsight there are better mats available than the genuine one which has a cutout for the passenger side airbag and is a little more reflective than a couple of the alternative. See earlier in this thread.

Yeah, was about to order from fit-my-car then I came to the select colour.  I cannot remember what colour is my carpet. was it grey or black.  Will have to order it tonight once I had a look at the carpet colour :)

I'm too lazy to go downstairs and look, but i'd go the black. Head linings are black and darker the better as will be less likely to reflect in the windscreen.  (bossy aren't I)  :snigger:
