How to replace a/c condensor
« June 09, 2019, 06:12:44 »
Good morning all,

I have a 2009 u.k i30 petrol and looking for some advice, I'm planning on changing the air conditioning condensor soon. I have access to a regas machine but wondered if I had to remove the bumper to replace it or not? Thanks Adam.

I don't think that's going to yield any advantage

Wow thanks for the response! Looks like maybe leaving the bumper on but moving the radiator out the way to get to it. Be interesting to know if anyone has dine it themselves on here!

I have access to a regas machine

Has the air con stopped working?

Been told the gas is 3x expensive as bog standard gas so when condenser replaced make sure system is sealed before gassing.

I've just had a regas a week ago.
Pity you didn't post sooner as i would have let you regas mine and paid you..... rather than garage

It still working but only just, I regassed it last year now it's really poor again and can see the condensor is falling to bits

Must have slow leak in system if needs more after 12 months.

. By chance how much was the gas, r 1234, compared to bog standard stuff

Back to the question you asked, this will be more valuable.

The condenser is a simple change, Just remove the two lines HP lines and radiator top hose and slide condenser upwards and out.
You obviously have a leak , before removing and loosing pressure put some goob on the two filler/evac valves, see if they bubble.

The seals on the two lines need to be replaced.
You could start there and just leave condenser. If its a slow leak, its probably ok
When Ive done a replacement of any components, Ive usually had a few weeks up my sleeve so I use compressed air to check that pressure is holding, therefore I dont waste gas on a still leaking system. But DONT run the A/C, a quick test spin of the compressor is ok.
If its a slow leak its quite possible that seals in the compressor are RS
