Hello everyone !
This is my fist ever post and it comes with a big question and even bigger decision I need to make pretty soon  :sweating:

I'm 3 years (2 left) in my 2016 i30 leasing and in next 2 months I will be relocating to USA  :crazy2:

Do you think is a wise decision to early buy-out the car and try to import it in USA ?

I've made some research on the import process, but it looks like a lot of hassle to try to do that...

Have anyone here had this experience before ?

Thank you kindly for any piece of advice you can give   :goodjob2:

Welcome Bogdan,

Obviously living in Tasmania, Australia,  I haven't done it, but I would not imagine it to be viable. What with the cost of freight, insurance, possible duties, re-registration etc...

Resale of the car later in the USA could be fraught with complications too. Sorry to be a party pooper... I don't always make good decisions in my own life but am usually good at identifying risks for others.

Enjoy the move to the States.
Enjoy the new car over there.
Enjoy not going through all the bullshit and cost .

Thanks guys for your input. I also think now is a wise decision to try to leave my i30 behind and buy other car there. Thanks!  :goodjob2:

As mick says, hope the relocation goes well and you enjoy your new job and location.

If you enjoy your i30 they are available in the States as an Elantra GT.

Hi Daz.

Got two offers to sell the car, but they were both unacceptable...such less money for a car which is in tip-top shape.

I'm thinking to keep the car in my brother's garage for a while, meaning I'll still pay the monthly fees without using it

After settling in US, I'll try to find more about the import process and who knows... maybe I'll finally relocate it with me  :snigger:

Until then, I am looking for a nice cover for it. Found a lot of them on Amazon/Ebay, but I'm afraid they'll not cover fully the car  :sweating:

Do you know where I can buy a "verified" car cover for my i30 kombi?

Thanks.

Try a local Auto store, best way to get a feel for what you really want.

There are dust covers and then weather proof covers depending on where you are storing the vehicle, better ones are generally heaver grade material with a felt/microfiber lining to prevent scratches as the cover shifts around.

Doesn't hurt to keep your options open. Do a bit of research on car storage though. Not a huge fan of car covers. You have to be careful to ensure no grit gets under the cover or it can do more harm than good.

Hi! Ha ha... good one!
Of course I know what flannel is and how the flanny sheets look like
My brother has an unit(small building) covered, it's not an actual garage. The elements will not enter that building, I'm more afraid about his kids (3) who might go around the car and scratch it :)
Thank you all for the tips.
