I'm looking at removing my swirl control actuator to see if I can service the item and clear the error code once re-installed.

I'm somewhat stumped at how this is removed at the swirl flap end?

Here's the actuator assembly:

You can see the pivot point on the actuator in the middle of this image (white nylon washer) and then the connecting rod that goes down towards the swirl flaps at the manifold.

At the end of the connecting rod it looks like there's a split pin and a 10mm nut but it does not look like an easy access scenario and I'm concerned that one of the items may well disappear due to the effects of gravity and never be seen again!  :whistler:

Has anybody replaced the "Swirl Control Actuator" and if so, any tips for removal?

What you're looking at is a nylon washer and circlip, and yes it's tiny , you may never find it again,

Have you tried moving that lever first? It will move freely and is spring loaded to return. I think seizure is on the cards looking at that and coiuld the intake be so coked up it may stop the swirl flap from moving?

Manual does suggest swirl flap seizure for P2015. I'd confirm that's free before you dish out for the motor

Thanks for the information tw2005.

That was exactly what I needed to know  :goodjob2:

I've just got back from performing the job on my car and will upload a video soonest, to help others see what is involved.

My flaps (ooh err Mrs!  :whistler: ) were moving freely, turns out it was the pivot point at the actuator that was well seized up.

cheap fix. Strange thing is that flap goes through several sweeps on shutdown. Has the car been sitting?  Did look a bit cruddy .

No it's used pretty regularly, got 170+k (miles) on it as well.

Think most of it is due to Scottish weather and road salt in the winter.

Hopefully be of use to anybody else that gets a code throwing up.

All I could find online was the 2.0L or bigger variants plus loads of Audi and VW stuff which is completely different!
