Indicators not self cancelling

Hi

Does anyone have any info on the indicator mechanism on the steering column?

The indicators have stopped self cancelling since the dashboard has been out on my 2009 FD, I wonder if something got knocked during the work.

Do indicator stalks still have a mechanical method of cancelling or is there some new method?

Strangely, I am also getting some rather baffling oversteer on corners, like the EPS is too sensitive, I wonder if that is related !

Any insights would be gladly appreciated !

You may want to back track and tell us what has been removed, and refitted in relation to the steering column. also how it was fitted and positioned

The clock spring is the trigger for the self cancel and these need to be fitted correctly and centred  rotationally too. It will only turn so many degrees each way before the internal electrical ribbon binds up and breaks. Any error lights lit? ESP, EPS etc

Also the indicator stalk slides  all the way in and clips, is it seated all the way in?

Nothing was taken off the steering column other than the 2 plastic shrouds.

The dash was taken out for another unrelated issue, the mechanics of the steering were not touched at all.

There's no lights on, EPS and ESP seem to be functioning OK.

The only thing I can think is that something got knocked when the dash was popped out.

I've had the shrouds off again to have a visual, cant see anything amiss.

The dash was taken out for another unrelated issue, the mechanics of the steering were not touched at all.

Well I'm mystified too then, can only think the stalk has been unclipped and not all the way in then or the tab has snapped off

Here is the stalk, 2 shots, 1 with the indicator activated and the tab has extended, the other is in the home position.  The clock spring housing as it rotates strikes the tab and activates the cancel.

Thanks for the pics.

Its all back together ATM, I'll have another look when I get home this afternoon.

Might have some decent light this time to look at it, it's dark by 5pm here now, bloody winter !!!!!!

What is a clock spring BTW?

That was it, all fixed now.

The dash must have got caught on the edge of Indicator stalk body when it was pulled through the drivers door and pulled it slightly off the fully seated position.

Also explains why the shrouds wouldn't fit properly  it was being distorted by the stalk poking out slightly.

Not sure whats going on with the oversteer, perhaps I am just imagining that.

Nope - not touched.
Then it makes no sense there would be any change unless they've snagged and damaged a harness on the EPS controller. There are some fine wires attached but I'd expect an error lamp to light up if it had an issue

I have replaced or just removed several FD dashs.  I remove both stalks and even the steering wheel. Its simple , gives better access and avoids breakage.

Suggest mechanics are avoiding blame for something they have done.

I am a little sus on it too, those indicator stalks don't just pop out, you'd likely snap the stalk before it would  move and they clip in hard
