Hi all

Earlier today I turned my Nline off and for maybe 5-7 seconds a very loud almost jet engine like sound blasted out of the bonnet. My initial thoughts are that it’s cooling down and the garage may have amplified it  but gee it was loud and confronting. Is this just the intercooler and fan working after shut down?

I have my 1500km inspection soon so maybe I should mention it?

I turned it back on for 20 seconds after this and turned it off and it happened again for maybe 1-2 seconds before fizzling out.

Thanks all!

Quite possible just the thermo fan/s.
Our Kona did a similar thing a few weeks ago, in the shed , think fan/s were on but only really noticed after turning off.  Was loud .

Sounds like thermo fan to me, warmer weather and having the aircon on will put it in launch (takeoff) mode for me :)

Yeah, hoping so it was just the thermo fan. Today is actually only 18c instead of 30c here and first day of no aircon.

It was odd as the car was off, no sound, I was walking away and it came from no where. Sound like a jet!

:wts: Only happened to me a couple of times in 2 years, but where I live in Tassie doesn't get that hot.

Hmm seems as though the jury has come to a collective consensus  :happydance:

I will worry no longer

Sorry, here's a novel idea.   :whistler:

Try lifting the lid thing on the front of the car before you shut down. You should be able to  detect the 'area' / source of the noise.

Probably won't be mid 30's in Canberra for a while.
May need to resort to :
1) pop bonnet
2) start up and let get warmed up.
Or
3) find relay for fan, remove and bridge across to engage fan  :victory:

Car in garage, strange sound.
I turned my Nline off and for maybe 5-7 seconds a very loud almost jet engine like sound blasted out of the bonnet

During dinner house filled with smoke and heat. Has car set fire to house?

A little update for those that took the time to post.

I asked a tech at my first service and he said he is 99% sure was the thermo fan. He said he gets a lot of people asking about this.

The car hasn't exploded or caught on fire so all is well.

I've asked Vinnies to reserve a spot for me just in case..
