The bulb has blown.

Bulb 7 years old so is it as I suspect just age or would there be another underlying issues.

All other bulbs are ok.

Back to the dealer and kick up a stink  :disapp:

Bulbs shouldn't just "blow" after 7 years   :P

I'm suspecting you spend far to much time in your glove box...

You are probably a bit like this bloke!

My girlfriend invited me to her house...

...and I got there a bit early, only her sister was there. So I sat there waiting for my girlfriend while her unbelievable sexy sister was sitting next to me. A few moments later she whispered to me 'we should have sex while my sister isn't home. I immediately got up and turned around to head back to my car. I found my girlfriend standing by the door, she hugged me and said 'you've won my trust'.

Moral of the story: Always keep your condoms in the glove box of your car.

There is a TSB for this fault. they will replace the bulb free for the lifetime of the car.

You have to pay the £90 diagnostic fee though.

Sorted for 50p for new bulb and 15 minutes of my time.

Decided to do a bit of investigating myself tonight when I put the new bulb in.

Well there is/was an issue with the on off switch which is behind the glove box.

It gets dark around 4.15 pm when I put the new bulb in and when I closed the glove box I could see very faint light.

Light could be seen when I looked closely at the top edge of the glove box where it meets the fascia.

When the glove box was opened the light was on.

When the glovebox is closed the light did not go off immediately, as you would expect, and stayed on and on and on..........and on......

I sat in car and locked the doors with remote and light stayed on and on and on.............. and on........

Checking the light on/off switch which is at the back of the glove box, dropped glove box forward as if getting access to the aircon filters, the back of the glove box pushes against a small half round button which feels as if it is on a spring.

In my case it would appear the button wasn't depressing enough when the glove box closed so the timer switch, see later, wasn't being activated correctly.

Now I get technical as new switch not available - pushed button in and out several times to ensure free movement. Initially there was a slight resistance but after several pushes felt smoother.

After 'freeing' the switch, when the glove box is closed the light stayed on for about a minute or so and after the allotted time you hear a click, presume timer switch, and the light goes out.

Switch now working as expected and light out after minute or so.

So my conclusion is as the inside of the bulb was black, the bulb was staying illuminated and eventually heat caused it to blow.

never heard of a timer on a glove box switch. Why would there be?  May  be the switch is defective.

Maybe it's just wired through the same circuit as the dome lights and fades when they fade.

Ok sat in car today to try and work out when the click happens.

Need to amend my post from last night in that the glovebox light goes off when it is closed.

Last night in the dark a cloth I use for the windows was getting caught in the box corner preventing a full closure.

So today this is the status.

Pressed the lock button and doors lock and the blue door light stayed constant.

After minute or so the blue light goes out.

After further 30 seconds or so the click is heard.

My conclusion now is it may be something to do with 'sleeping/closing down' the cars system and activating the alarm system.

I think the click is signifying that most aux items become inactive, including when the windows can be moved.

I can attest to the click's association with most things shutting down. :goodjob:

Me too... I've heard my body make a few clicks late in the day recently... and I know some of my systems have started shutting down.  :Pout:
