Yes, can be an expensive exercise to fix unfortunately. Sounds like actuator to me. If you or a friend are pretty good at DIY it is probably doable at home. There are quite a few threads on here as you say, some of which would include how to's and cheap options for sourceing a replacement. Might even be a how to video on you tube. I imagine most Hyundai and Kia vehicles would be the same in that regard so don't limit your searches to just i30's on youtube or google.
