Bossy, maybe, but it makes a whole heap of sense to standardise on common charging tech.

I've lost track of how many circular-pin chargers I've ditched from the various phones I've owned.

As a die hard Androider forced to use a (free) Apple company phone, I begrudgingly came to enjoy the universal orientation of the Apple fire wire approach. I applaud the falling in line but might miss not having to do the flip once, flip twice dance.

The  USB-C doesn't need flipping.

Yes the spec allows for "any which way but loose" connectivity :D

I seem to remember Apple agreeing to standardise with the Micro USB when it was introduced.

The view was just to offer an short cable with Micro USB female to lightening plug.

They made a tiny plug in adapter. I've lost many of them.

USB-C is the way. Make sure you buy cables where the plugs are welded not crimped.
