Hello folks,

I'm living in France and looked at an i30 yesterday.  The lady says that she had the catalytic converter fixed on the thing so I looked under the car:

Is that the converter?
When I looks for the part I get two different looking things:

Could someone explain this to me?

Depends on which "thing " you are talking about. Also what motor? In the image I see the flex joint and a small portion of the cat and the O2 sensor.

But what are you after exactly and what's the purpose of those other images both look like aftermarket constructions?

There couldbe a small exhaust leak on that flange too looking at that black residue on the joints

Cant advise anything without model and fuel type.

tw, a no show French 'member' and its mechanic seemed to be conflating cat converter and particulate filter. Similar here.

I'll bet that the lady means that - the leak at the cat has been fixed.
( Christ knows what she was told though and how much that cost )

Thanks for all the replies folks.  It's clear now that I took a picture of the wrong thing. I'm guessing I took a picture of the part #28611.

The blackness at the flange does look like a possible leak. I'm guessing it's not a big deal though.

The car seems to be in pretty good shape so I bought it for a decent price...
I guess I'll be on this forum more often (although hopefully not too often).
