  • the older I get, the faster I was
after a bit over 3 years with the old I30, I had to change the car.
bought it with 208,000 km, with no service history, for about half the market price.
had to replace the crankshaft position sensor, align 3 wheels, replace 2 window switches.  over this time the engine fan broke and a water hose broke.
overall, very reasonable for a 10 year old car.
sold it with 249,000 km, with noisy suspension and a transmission that from time to time plays  a bit around, but nothing serious.
as my wife decided to start a coffee trailer, we hired some old trailer for the start, I towed it with the I30, but I have to climb a sidewalk with the trailer, the I30 was not up to the task.
also we bought a used trailer that is now being renovated, and the total weight is 1500kg, way over the 1200kg of the I30 ability by manufacture.
so I had to find a car that can tow 1500 kg, and I said to me self, why not look for a 4*4 car.
easier to climb the sidewalk and we can go a bit offroad.
was thinking about a pickup truck, but this is not the car you want for a 5 persons family.
looked at LandCrousers - way way too expansive
looked at Grand Cherokee - too expansive to maintain.
looked at Rexton - my mechanic threw me out the door.
so found a Chevrolet Captiva 2012 with 236,000 km.
not very offroad car, but it handles the trailer pretty easy.
so now I am spending my forum time at the Chevroletownersclub.
this forum was a great help.
thanks everyone.

Hope the Captiva goes well, over here they have a poor reputation. We'll catch up with your next Hyundai then I guess if we're all still around :goodjob2:

A coffee van might actually be a good thing in the current climate. Hope everything goes well for you both. Keep in touch and let us know how you go with the new project and the new vehicle.

Like Steve says, you've been a good contributor.   :hatoff:

thanks everyone.
as a fan of French cars, I would never thought I would say that a Korean car is comfortable.
well, the Captiva is a surprise. frankly, the I30 was noisy and the seats were lousy. I guess its market dependent.
the Captiva has its issues, and I am getting help from the Chevroletownersclub forum.
parking sensors are not working, took the rear bumper off to discover that the main connector was not secured to the metal tab and was lying on the exhaust, completely melted, ordered a new waterproof connector from amazon. surprisingly, I managed to get the bumper on without breaking anything.
I have a constant error P0053 so probably need upstream O2 sensor replacement.
and the transmission is not in the best shape.
hope for the best.
now the focus is avoiding corona virus.
thanks
