Hi all i am new here i got my i30 off my friends 2 weeks ago now and it is great i love it, it is a 2009 auto diesel.
it has had a starting issue for a while now and i tested the glow plugs and found all of them were stuffed so i changed them out.
this did help a bit but did not alleviate the problem, i have a obd2 sensor hooked up that streams information to my phone, i find that when it turns over sometime i do not get any fuel pressure at the fuel rail, other times it is very low, and other times it is very high.
when the car stops the fuel pressure goes down to 0 psi, my question is should it hold pressure in the fuel rail or does it only pressurize when the car is trying to start?

any help on this would be great, thank you for your time to read it, Chip.

The pressure drops on shutdown, I forget how quick but fairly quickly.  I don't fully understand the finer points of CRDi but it also needs to reach a target pressure to fire as well otherwise the ECU won't let it fire

Try primer and make sure the line is primed if you have removed the filter

Thank you for your reply, does anyone know of the pressure target that needs to be reached for the car to start?
i am currently downloading a workshop manual for the car which is 27gig so taking a while.

i will be sure to check the filter and replace it, i will make sure all air is out of the fuel line.
i was thinking along the line of it might be a faulty pressure sensor or a physical pressure issue, after reading about the pressure target needing to be reached i am thinking it is a physical issue.

Ok i am quietly confident I have sorted this out.
Replaced the fuel filter and when i took the hoses off there was no fuel there, also the hoses came off very easily. So i primed the fuel thru and fitted the hoses back on making sure they made a solid click and away it went, its only early days but for now it seems to have fixed it.
Unless the hose connections are leaking air into the system but time will tell.

Yeah, fingers crossed Chip :D

Looks like Gerard had it nailed...

Try primer and make sure the line is primed if you have removed the filter
