I am in Australia (NSW) and was wondering if the part I need can be obtained locally or even through Hyundai AU? Could my local mechanic who services my car install the part?

Yes it can be ordered through Hyundai spare parts or even obtainable via eBay or a wreckers, it shouldn't be an issue for your mechanic to install.
