It is ruining the otherwise enjoyable experience of driving this fun car.

The issue has been sneaking up gradually but has become quite unpleasant.

There is initial resistance every time I apply pressure to the accelerator pedal. Once I press it hard enough to activate, it is not a gentle progression of revs that builds relative to pedal pressure, but revs are initiated with a sudden jolt.  :crazy1:
The throttle behaves normally once this initial 'hurdle' has been passed but is there again after each gearchange and is especially annoying when starting off from stationary.

I have :-
*lubed the throttle cable with silicone oil via a motorcycle cable oiler.
*used CRC throttle body cleaner and a rag and toothbrush to clean away most of the deposits of carbon in the throttle body.

My next attack will be to disconnect the cruise control cable that is piggy-backing on the throttle cable to see if this is the culprit. I can't think what else could be causing this problem.

Does anyone have any other ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix the problem?

Hi Paolo

Could it be something as simple as something fouling the accelerator pedal itself inside the car?

What do I need to look out for there, Mick?

On bottom of pedal, a roller or slide ball/knob that goes along a groove or a track. Don't know your set up , but have seen roller with piece missing that made  throttle  move easy, then engine slowdown & throttle hard then be all good again till throttle back to idle position, then it started again.

Just for completion here...I think that this problem has been overcome.

I disconnected the cruise control cable which piggy-backed onto the throttle cable...no difference.

I greased the clevis pin that was the axis for the accelerator pedal movement...no difference.

Out of frustration I cleaned the throttle body again with CRC Throttle Body Cleaner. The first time I did this was maybe a month ago and I used a toothbrush to rub into the small amount of carbon that had collected there. I removed most (but not all) of it. The toothbrush just wasn't abrasive enough to do that.

Yesterday (instead of a toothbrush) I very gently used a piece of worn kitchen scourer-type green cloth that was slightly abrasive. All of the visible carbon in the throttle body was removed easily.

I took the ol' Getz for a spin this morning and it "pulls like a bull in Springtime" (as an old mate used to say).

If the cure is long-lasting and I have, indeed located the source of the problem in my car, I am amazed how such a little deposit of carbon can make such a difference to the driveability of this humble steed.

If that's the fix, good work.  :victory:
I hope it lasts a while before it returns.

Yes...still skeptical that it won't return in a hurry. But it is great now!
