So this forum, along with the awsome Korean i30 club pics have given me the Mod Bug...
The first Mod I will attempt is a little LED swap for my Daytime Running Lights

I got the idea from this Korean i30 DIY site: http://wiz.pe.kr/268
I've ordered these T-10 1Watt LED bulbs from eBay http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280522922682

I shall post pics as soon as I receive them and do an install :)

Then you'll find you need to swap your main beam, dip beam and foglights too, or they will look VERY yellow in comparison.

There are some photos of LED T10's in the front on here somewhere, searching for "superlux" might find them.

I have those fitted. They do look better than the stock filament 501s

Hm... this is quite the colour difference for a before/after.

Perhaps I shall only change one! Then at night my car will look like some old klunker coming up fast in the passing lane & others shall move over and let me pass. Ha ha I'll try it for one night (I usually drive fairly late from the gym, around midnight. I shall post the results.)

I found that those LED's looked good, but the light output was too dim so i upgraded to something like:

These new leds had more light output but since I have HIDs and all the vibration while driving etc and since the built of these led's are so cheap, they all start to die one by one till out of the 9 SMDs on the globe, only like 2 last after like 2 months...

Those LEDs you picked are really good for the front parkers but for the rear number plate they aren't very directional so the numberplate is very dimly lit. They sure do look good though!

Yeah, they look great to start with, but eventually start to flicker and the SMDs die one by one =(

I ran some similar lights on my old bomberdore and didn't seem to have any probs.
Maybe a batch that are poor?

Might be a bad batch, or because they are in really close proximity to my HIDs..they also look good if you replace the glove box light! I wonder why they don't make the LEDs as standard lights as they look so much better and elegant, and they would be cheaper and have a longer lifespan?

So the LEDs have arrived a few days ago! Tested them with a 12V supply and they are bright!!

And now for the embarrassing question  :-[:

So I unscrewed the cap behind the headlights. I see where the daytime lights go in, but for the life of me, I cannot pull them out. I tried right headlight (by the windshield washer reservoir) and my hand does not fit. I can get two fingers in (on from the top - one from the side) but I am not sure how to pull it out? Does it screw in? I tried applying some force but maybe I was afraid of breaking it and didn't 'man up' enough.

So anyone that's done this mod, how do you get the bulb socket/holder out in order to replace it with a T10 LED?

Regards,

Slightly Embarrassed

It's not screwed in, just pull it out, I also thought I was gonna break something but theres nothing to break

I think it's easier to take out the headlight unit, you have to get a good grip with your thumb and index finger to pull the socket out.

Agree with Hemmi. You'll struggle unless you remove the headlights. It only needs 3 small bolts unscrewing.

Success!!
Ha ha I just took off the headlights at work and installed the LED's. Pics coming later tonight.
On my first try, with 15 min left into my lunch break - I installed one of the LEDs and failed to check that I put it in properly (with the right polarity). So I screwed everything back in, only to see it not turn on!

Ya no kidding Hemmi!
Haha good thing I got another 15 min break after. Got both headlights out in no time, changed the bulbs and DONE :)
Hm here are the pictures. They are definetely not as bright as the original bulbs, but they look COOL. And I kinda like the dual-tone light haha.

Hm, there are several DIY examples that I've found.
Here is an interresting one http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifications-accessories/78310-diy-led-strip-necklace-civic.html

It kinda looks ugly how the cable comes out and he's taped it off to the side. I guess the end result looks ok.
I've always had a problem with the spacing of the LEDs. They seem so far apart and not too bright compared to an Audi. Almost like LED pattern baldness haha

It also looks like they have to be installed on the outside of the headlight. Which in a way is good I guess. It would be dreadful to bake your headlight, rip it appart, install and then seal, only to have the LEDs down the road :|

These LED strips from Korea look a lot more compact and bright. I like the higher density LEDs
