Hey All,

I did a search but it didn't bring in too much.. Just wondering what you all think of the stick on chrome like for door handles and mirrors?  I'm getting a black car and personally I really like the look of the shiney silver and black?

Do you think they are worth buying - I've found some on ebay for $25?  How hard would they be to remove considering it is "special automotive adhesive tape"

I got the 'stick on red' strips and at first they looked great. They don't last very long at all in Sydney. They started to come off in no time. When they say 'special automotive adhesive tape' they normally mean the cheaper 3M double sided tape. They are decent but with enough heat or if you wash your car they tend to peel off. Also with tight bends, they don't hold as well and start to lift off.

You can always give them a try? They are only $25...cheaper than what I paid for it! =P

ohh yeah! chrome + black = straight up pimp!!!

it wont be hard to remove... no harder than a badge from a car, you get a bit of fishing line, put it under and use it like a saw to "cut" the double sided tape then remove the rest with your finger nails, kero, and then polish anything else off!!!

also the fishing line wont damage the paint! (you will soon realise what i mean)

They would have a large contact area so should stay on ok once installed.. unlike a thin feature strip or something...

Hey Kimba, I put the chrome handles and protection plates on my white auto and they look great. Easy to keep clean and hold on very very well. I've got a few comments from other i30 owners too.

Give my love to sunny Townsville...I used to live there (oh well, to tell the truth., I used to live at The Seaview!  )

Hi Ugly Mongrel,
Which protection plates do you have? Are they fitted at the floor level of each door opening over the grey moulding that Hyundai fits? If so, how did you get them to stick to the grey moulding?

I found that the stainless protection plates just wouldn't stick....in spite of me preparing the grey moulding with 70% isopropyl alcohol swabs and then dry wiping them as well.

If your ones stick well, can you please tell me where I can get some.

Cheers,
Paolo5

Hahah the Seaview, I've had some good times there!  Still a good place to drink or have a feed.  Townsville isn't a bad place to live.  Not a whole lot to do but it's very relaxed... I have a feeling I'm the 2nd or 3rd person to have a black i30 here.

I ordered the door handles, mirrors and even got the tail light stick ons and it only cost about $100 for all of it on ebay.  It is in the post with my ipod cable :) My boyfriend is in the Army and he's on deployment overseas atm but gets home on Sunday.. so on Saturday I'm going to wash, clay and wax my car and stick all the chrome on it :)

Can't wait

kim the chrome sounds interesting, especially on black

but i'd also think twice about the clay. you have a brand new car, you shouldn't need it yet. the paint work should still be smooth at this stage. i guess think of it like exfoliating your skin, you don't do it every time, and only do it if your skin feels rough and bumpy and needs an extra good clean.
so give a very good clean, and just feel the surface lightly (try while running water over it if not sure). only if you had definite rough areas with obvious stuck contaminants would you look to the clay.

then the wax gives the protection layer for awhile. you may notice in townsville with the heat the wax won't last as long as recommended, but it's not that hot yet so should be good :)

bumpkin wonders what level of grovelling is required for the nice lady, despite thinking that his post had enough lol's to show that he had worked out the photographer was not a lady of any form!
